Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is hiring 10 Non-Teaching staff for Bharat Kala Bhawan, its renowned museum in Varanasi, across the posts of Assistant Curator, Artist, Assistant Photographer, Junior Darner and Gallery Attendant. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Non-Teaching Recruitment 2026 - 10 Posts
Banaras Hindu University (BHU), through its Recruitment and Assessment Cell, has released Advertisement No. 14/2025-2026 for 10 Non-Teaching Group 'B' and 'C' posts at Bharat Kala Bhawan, the university's museum and art gallery. The posts span curatorial, artistic, photography, conservation and gallery support roles across five different pay levels. No age bar applies to existing permanent BHU employees, and daily wage/contractual staff already working at BHU get weightage marks in the written test and skill test. Both freshers and experienced candidates in art, museology and heritage fields can apply.

Who Can Apply?
Assistant Curator (Level 6 - Rs. 35,400-1,12,400/month):
- Qualification: Master's degree in Museology / AIHC & Archaeology / History of Art / Archaeology / Heritage Management / Heritage Studies with minimum 55% marks.
- Additional requirement: Diploma in Museology (not needed if your Master's is already in Museology) OR at least one paper related to Exhibition Management/Museum Studies.
- Desirable: Ph.D. or research publications; knowledge of Sanskrit/Pali/Arabic/Persian/Urdu.
Artist (Level 6 - Rs. 35,400-1,12,400/month):
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.
- Experience: 5 years in traditional Indian painting (Rajasthani, Pahari, Mughal) or Commercial Art relevant to museum work like exhibition/poster design.
Assistant Photographer (Level 5 - Rs. 29,200-92,300/month):
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with Photography, OR a Bachelor's degree with a Diploma in Photography.
- Experience: At least 1 year in photography and digital image processing.
- Desirable: Experience photographing museum artefacts.
Junior Darner (Level 3 - Rs. 21,700-69,100/month):
- Qualification: Intermediate (12th pass).
- Experience: 5 years working on relevant museum-related tasks.
Gallery Attendant (Level 1 - Rs. 18,000-56,900/month):
- Qualification: Intermediate (12th pass).
- Desirable: Experience of similar work in a museum or reputed institution.
Age Limit
- Age limit is 35 years for Assistant Curator and Artist posts, and 32 years for Assistant Photographer, Junior Darner and Gallery Attendant posts, as on 8 July 2026 (last date of online application).
- Age Relaxation: As per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen. No age bar for existing permanent BHU employees.
- Note: Service rendered on contract/daily wage/project basis at BHU (minimum 6 months continuous stretch) also counts towards age relaxation.
Salary
- Assistant Curator / Artist: Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month (Pay Level 6).
- Assistant Photographer: Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300 per month (Pay Level 5).
- Junior Darner: Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100 per month (Pay Level 3).
- Gallery Attendant: Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 56,900 per month (Pay Level 1).
- You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process
The selection will be done in the following stages:
- Written Test: Screening test relevant to your post.
- Skill Test / Demonstration: Practical test for relevant posts such as Artist, Assistant Photographer and Junior Darner.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must produce original documents for verification.
Bonus Marks: BHU contract/daily wage employees get a weightage of 4% marks per year of service (up to 20% maximum) in the written test and skill test/demonstration for Group 'C' posts.

Responsibilities
- Manage and catalogue museum artefacts, paintings and heritage collections
- Plan and set up exhibitions and public displays at Bharat Kala Bhawan
- Maintain records of accessions, condition reports and conservation needs
- Assist visitors, researchers and students with museum collections and archives
- Support photography, documentation and digitisation of museum objects
- Handle day-to-day gallery upkeep, security and visitor management
- Coordinate with conservation staff for preservation of art and antiques
- Prepare reports and maintain administrative records of the department
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
12th Pass (Intermediate) for Gallery Attendant/Junior Darner; Bachelor's degree for Artist/Assistant Photographer; Master's degree in Museology or allied subject for Assistant Curator
Preferred Qualification
Ph.D./research publications and knowledge of Sanskrit/Pali/Arabic/Persian/Urdu (Assistant Curator); museum artefact photography experience (Assistant Photographer); experience in a museum of repute (Gallery Attendant)
Age Limit
18 - 35 years (as on 08 Jul 2026)
