The Government of Odisha's Higher Education Department is looking for a distinguished academic leader to serve as Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University, Berhampur, Odisha. The Government of Odisha, Higher Education Department, Bhubaneswar has released Notification No. HE-UE-COMM-0001-2021/21264 dated 22 April 2026 for the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor for Berhampur University (Berhampur, Odisha). The Vice-Chancellor will hold office for a tenure of 4 years from the date of assuming charge, or till he/she attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. Pay protection is available for candidates belonging to Central or State Government Public Universities or Institutions.

Who Can Apply?

You must be a distinguished academician of proven academic and administrative excellence with a well-rounded personality. Specifically:

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a Professor in a University system, OR
• Minimum 10 years of experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research and/or academic organization
• Must be below 66 years of age as on 07.08.2026 (i.e., born on or after 08.08.1960)

Pay protection is applicable for candidates from Central or State Government Public Universities or Institutions.

• Maximum age: Below 66 years as on 07.08.2026
• Must be born on or after 08.08.1960
• Tenure ends at age 70 or after 4 years, whichever is earlier

Salary

• Fixed Pay: Rs. 2,10,000 per month
• Special Allowance: Rs. 11,250 per month
• Dearness Allowance and other usual allowances as applicable
• Pay Protection: Available for candidates from Central/State Government Public Universities or Institutions
• Tenure: 4 years or till age 70, whichever is earlier — not renewable/extendable

Selection Process

1. Application screening by the Higher Education Department
2. Interview before a three-member Selection Committee — shortlisted candidates only
3. Venue and schedule of interview will be communicated to shortlisted candidates in due course

1. Download the prescribed application format from the Department's website www.dhe.odisha.gov.in or the Berhampur University website
2. Fill in the application form and scan the completed, signed physical copy
3. Send the scanned PDF by email to hedsec.od@od.gov.in with the subject line: "Application for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University"
4. Also submit the application digitally on the HIMS Portal at hims.odisha.gov.in/Application-for-post-of-VC
5. Both the email submission and HIMS portal submission must be completed no later than 23:55 hours on 24.05.2026
6. Send a hard copy of the application (ink-signed, with all supporting documents) by Speed Post (India Post) only — no courier — to: Office of Commissioner Cum Secretary, Higher Education Department, Lok Seva Bhawan, Sachivalaya Marg, Bhubaneswar – 751001
7. Hard copy must reach the Department on or before 29.05.2026

• Lead the academic, administrative, and financial management of Berhampur University as its Chief Executive
• Maintain high standards of teaching, research, and academic excellence across all departments and faculties
• Implement the policies and directions of the State Government's Higher Education Department and the University's statutory bodies
• Represent the University in dealings with the Government, UGC, NAAC, and other regulatory and funding agencies
• Preside over the Academic Council, Executive Council, and other statutory bodies of the University
• Oversee recruitment, appointment, and promotion of faculty and staff in accordance with University statutes
• Foster industry-academia collaboration, research partnerships, and internationalisation of the University
