About This Job

Bharathidasan University (BDU), Tiruchirappalli is hiring 1 Project Assistant for a funded research project in the Department of Biotechnology. If you have an M.Sc in Biotechnology, Botany, or Life Sciences (or M.Tech Biotechnology) with at least 55% marks, you can apply. The last date to send your application is 11 May 2026. Bharathidasan University Project Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Bharathidasan University (BDU), Tiruchirappalli has notified 1 Project Assistant position under the Faculty-led Chief Minister's Research Grant (CMRG) scheme (2025-26), supervised by Dr. M. Manickavasagam, Department of Biotechnology. The project title is "Nanoparticle driven large scale L-DOPA production from tissue culture derived Hybanthus enneaspermus plants under field conditions". This is a contractual position for a total duration of 3 years (initial appointment for 1 year, extendable based on performance). The position is co-terminus with the project grant.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

  • M.Sc in Biotechnology / Botany / Life Sciences with a minimum of 55% marks or 5.79 CGPA from a recognised university.
  • OR M.Tech in Biotechnology with a minimum of 55% marks or 5.79 CGPA.
  • SC/ST candidates need a minimum of 50% marks or 5.26 CGPA.
  • Candidates who are waiting to defend their end semester project are also eligible to apply.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in Plant tissue culture is preferred (not mandatory).

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 28 years (as on 11 May 2026, the last date of application).
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation (up to 33 years).
  • Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of Tamil Nadu rules.

Salary

  • Fellowship of Rs. 25,000 per month (consolidated).
  • This is a project-funded position — no separate DA/HRA or government allowances.
  • The position is temporary and co-terminus with the CMRG project grant.

Selection is based on:

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research on nanoparticle-driven L-DOPA production from plant tissue cultures
  • Perform plant tissue culture experiments including callus induction, somatic embryogenesis, and field-condition trials
  • Prepare nanoparticle formulations and evaluate their effect on L-DOPA biosynthesis in Hybanthus enneaspermus plants
  • Collect, record, and analyse experimental data following standard laboratory and field protocols
  • Maintain proper lab records, lab notebooks, and project documentation
  • Prepare progress reports, presentations, and contribute to research publications
  • Manage lab equipment, consumables, and coordinate with collaborators under supervisor's guidance

M.Sc in Biotechnology / Botany / Life Sciences or M.Tech Biotechnology with minimum 55% marks or 5.79 CGPA (SC/ST: 50% or 5.26 CGPA)

Preferred Qualification

Experience in Plant tissue culture
