Principal District and Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District Stenographer Grade-III Recruitment 2026 - 21 Posts

The Principal District and Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District has released Notification No. ADM/99/2026 dated 10 August 2026 to fill 21 Stenographer Grade-III posts across its court establishments, under the Karnataka Subordinate Courts (Ministerial and Other Posts) Recruitment Rules, 2021. This recruitment follows a Karnataka High Court directive connected to related writ petitions, and is conducted purely online — no offline, postal, or in-person applications will be accepted.

Of the 21 posts, 4 are backlog vacancies (2 SC, 1 Category-1, 1 Category-2A) and 17 are new vacancies (10 general merit, 4 women, 2 rural quota, 1 person with disability, and the rest reserved for SC, ST, Category-1, 2A, 2B and 3B candidates).

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must have passed the 2nd PUC examination or hold a 3-year Diploma in Commercial Practice, or an equivalent qualification
  • Shorthand & Typewriting: You must have passed the Shorthand and Typewriting Higher Grade examination in both Kannada and English conducted by the Department of Public Instruction (or an equivalent qualification)
  • Computer Knowledge: Basic computer knowledge is compulsory for court office work

Age Limit

  • SC, ST, and Category-1: maximum age is 45 years (40 years + 5-year one-time relaxation)
  • Widows, ex-servicemen, and persons with disabilities already in government service get further age relaxation as per Karnataka Civil Services rules.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 44,425 to Rs. 83,700 per month under the Karnataka state pay scale (44425-1125-47800-1250-52800-1375-58300-1500-64300-1650-74200-1900-83700).
  • You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Karnataka government rules.
  • Selected candidates are covered under the National Pension Scheme (NPS).

Selection Process

Selection is done in 2 stages:

  1. Skill Test: You will be dictated a passage at 120 words per minute for 5 minutes in both Kannada and English shorthand. You then get 45 minutes to transcribe it on a computer or typewriter. You need at least 50 out of 100 marks (50%) in each language test to qualify.
  2. Interview: Based on your skill test marks, candidates are shortlisted for interview in a 1:5 ratio (5 candidates per vacancy) as per merit-cum-roster.

This process is designed to test both your shorthand speed and accuracy, and your suitability for working in a formal court environment. The final merit list is prepared using your combined skill test, interview, and document verification marks. Once selected, you will serve a 2-year probation period, during which you must clear the departmental exam, a Kannada language test, and a computer literacy test.
