Andaman and Nicobar Administration Common Higher Secondary Level Posts Recruitment 2026 - 716 Posts

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has released its Common Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) 2026 notification to fill 716 Group B and Group C posts. These include clerical posts like Lower Grade Clerk, Stenographer, and Typist, as well as technical and field posts like Forester, Patwari, Village Level Worker, Marine Master, Chief Engine Driver, and IT Analyst. Lower Grade Clerk alone has 426 vacancies, making this one of the biggest clerical recruitments in the islands this year. This is a single common exam for candidates who have completed their 12th standard.

Vacancy Breakdown

Here are the main posts on offer. All 716 vacancies are spread across the departments below:

Category-wise total: Unreserved - 334, OBC - 280, EWS - 60, ST - 42. A total of 25 posts are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and 2 posts for Ex-Servicemen.

Who Can Apply?

The basic qualification for most posts is Class 12 (Senior Secondary) pass from a recognised board. Some posts need extra qualifications:

• Clerk / Typist posts: 12th pass plus a typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi on computer.
• Stenographer posts: 12th pass plus shorthand at 80 wpm and typewriting at 40 wpm.
• Forester, Laboratory Assistant, Fisheries, Field Assistant posts: 12th pass in the Science stream (with Biology for some posts).
• Marine posts (Master, Chief Engine Driver, Marine Radio Operator): 12th pass plus the required Certificate of Competency and a swimming / trade test.
• IT Analyst / Computer Assistant: 12th pass with a computer diploma, or a Diploma in Computer Engineering.

Age Limit

• For most posts, your age should be between 18 and 33 years for male candidates and 18 to 38 years for female candidates.
• Some marine posts (Master 1st Class, Chief Engine Driver) have an upper limit of 30 years.
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen candidates get age relaxation as per government rules.

Salary

• Pay ranges from Rs. 19,900 (Pay Level 2) to Rs. 1,12,400 (Pay Level 6) per month under the 7th Pay Commission, depending on the post.
• Clerk / Typist posts: Pay Level 2 (Rs. 19,900 - 63,200).
• Patwari, Village Level Worker, Lab Assistant: Pay Level 3 or 4 (Rs. 21,700 - 81,100).
• Forester and Mechanical Foreman: Pay Level 5 (Rs. 29,200 - 92,300).
• Marine Master and Chief Engine Driver: Pay Level 6 (Rs. 35,400 - 1,12,400).
• You will also get DA, HRA, and Island Special allowances as per rules.

Physical Standards

Physical tests apply to some posts:

• Forester: Minimum height 163 cm for General male candidates and 150 cm for female candidates. You must also pass a physical endurance test - a 25 km walk for males and 14 km walk for females, to be finished in 4 hours.
• Marine posts: You must clear a swimming test and have normal eyesight with colour vision.

Selection Process

Selection is done through the following stages:

1. Written Examination: A common written competitive test conducted by the A&N Administration / Staff Selection Commission.
2. Skill / Trade Test: Typing test for clerk and typist posts, and shorthand test for stenographer posts.
3. Physical Test: Physical standard and endurance test for Forester, and swimming test for marine posts.
4. Document Verification: Checking of all original certificates.
