Small Arms Factory, Kanpur (SAF), a unit of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited under the Ministry of Defence, is hiring an Industrial Cadre Mason on a fixed-term contract. The engagement brings practical trade knowledge back into a defence-production workplace, with preference for people who already understand government or defence maintenance systems. This is a retired-person engagement rather than an entry-level trade apprenticeship or a regular factory appointment.

The Mason will work from the Small Arms Factory campus in Kanpur, while the organisation may also need support at another unit or proof range. Your base station will be fixed when you join, so the notice leaves room for work-linked travel without changing the main place of engagement. Hands-on masonry experience is central to the role because the interview panel will judge practical suitability alongside your service record.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract term: The first engagement runs for one year and may be extended for another year when your performance and the factory's need justify it.
• Further extension: Service after the second post-retirement year is not automatic. A reviewed and justified requirement may permit continuation, subject to the overall three-year ceiling stated in the notice.
• Fixed pay: For a civilian retiree, the monthly amount is based on last pay minus basic pension and stays unchanged during the contract, without an annual increment.
• Ex-servicemen: The competent factory authority will fix pay with reference to the applicable DGR minimum-wage rate, your trade skill, retired grade and deployment place.
• Benefits: Civilian retirees do not receive HRA, DA or another regular allowance. Approved travel outside the base station follows the notice's rule linked to the travel allowance drawn before retirement.
• Official secrecy: You must protect sensitive information under the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and cannot share advice or views that conflict with the interests of AWEIL or the Government of India.
• Interview travel: The factory will not pay TA or DA merely for attending the interview.
• Recruitment control: The department may change the requirement or cancel the exercise. An incomplete or unsigned form can be rejected without further processing.
