NTA NCET 2026 - ITEP Admission Overview

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official notification for the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) 2026. This exam is for admission to the 4-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). ITEP is a dual-major holistic bachelor's degree that combines a regular degree with B.Ed. You can get degrees like B.A. B.Ed., B.Sc. B.Ed., or B.Com. B.Ed. through this programme.

A total of 16,950 seats are available across 223 institutions in India. These include Central Universities, State Universities, IITs, NITs, RIEs, and Government Colleges.

Total Seats - Region Wise

  • North Regional Committee (NRC): 8,000 seats
  • East Regional Committee (ERC): 4,450 seats
  • West Regional Committee (WRC): 1,550 seats
  • South Regional Committee (SRC): 2,950 seats

Note: The number of seats may increase.

Who Can Apply?

  • You must have passed Class 12 or be appearing in Class 12 exams from any recognized board.
  • There is no age limit set by NTA for appearing in NCET. However, individual universities may have their own age criteria.
  • No minimum percentage is needed to appear for NCET.

Application Fee

  • General: Rs 1,200
  • OBC-NCL / EWS: Rs 1,000
  • SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender: Rs 650

Selection Process

The selection will happen in these steps:

  1. NCET 2026 Computer Based Test (CBT) - You will take an online exam at a test centre.
  2. Merit List - NTA will prepare a merit list based on your NCET score.
  3. University Counselling - Each university will conduct its own counselling process for seat allotment.

Exam Language Options

You can take the NCET 2026 exam in any of these 13 languages:

English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Exam Pattern

The NCET 2026 will be a Computer Based Test (CBT). You will get 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete the exam. The paper will have 181 questions in total, but you only need to attempt 160 questions. Maximum Marks: 640 Sections and Questions: - Language 1: 20 questions - Language 2: 20 questions - Domain Subject 1: 25 questions - Domain Subject 2: 25 questions - Domain Subject 3: 25 questions - General Test: 25 questions - Teaching Aptitude: 20 questions Marking Scheme: - Correct answer: +4 marks - Wrong answer: -1 mark (negative marking) - Not attempted: 0 marks The exam will be available in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
