ISRO Scientist Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), under the Department of Space, is recruiting Scientist/Engineer SC officers for electronics, mechanical and computer science work. The drive feeds technical teams across ISRO centres and units that design launch vehicles, satellites, ground systems and space applications for national programmes. Most appointments are Group A gazetted posts, while the corresponding Physical Research Laboratory roles are Group A non-gazetted positions in an autonomous body.
This is a common recruitment notice for all three engineering streams and their PRL-linked post codes. You should choose the code that matches both your engineering discipline and the organisation stream you want to join. The work can move from design and analysis to testing, integration, operations and research support, depending on the centre that receives you.
Posts and Disciplines
- Electronics at ISRO centres: engineering work around communication, avionics, control, instrumentation, embedded systems and mission electronics.
- Mechanical at ISRO centres: design, analysis, manufacturing, integration and testing of structures, mechanisms, thermal systems and ground hardware.
- Computer Science at ISRO centres: software engineering, data systems, networks, simulation, automation and mission-support computing.
- Electronics at PRL: laboratory and instrument-development support for space-science research in the autonomous-body stream.
- Mechanical at PRL: mechanical design, fabrication and experimental-system support for research facilities.
- Computer Science at PRL: scientific computing, research-data handling and software support for laboratory programmes.
Post-wise Duties
Electronics
You may design or test electronic subsystems, sensors, communication links and control hardware, then document results for integration teams. Your work can include troubleshooting equipment during qualification tests and supporting mission readiness.
Mechanical
You may handle mechanical design, structural or thermal analysis, manufacturing coordination and hardware testing. The role calls for close work with quality, materials, fabrication and integration teams so that flight and ground systems meet mission requirements.
Computer Science
You may build and maintain software, simulation tools, data pipelines, networks or automated test systems. Depending on the centre, your work can support spacecraft operations, payload processing, launch systems or scientific research.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Posting and transfer: You may be appointed to any Department of Space or ISRO centre or unit and transferred between them when organisational needs change.
- Post status: The posts are described as temporary but likely to continue, the standard wording used for continuing central-government technical appointments.
- Vacancy position: The notified distribution is provisional. ISRO may increase or reduce it and will communicate any change through a corrigendum on its website.
- Citizenship: Only Indian nationals may apply.
- Travel support: No travel allowance is paid for the written test. Shortlisted interview candidates can claim the notified second-class rail fare from the city recorded in their online form.
- Serving employees: If you work for government, a PSU or an autonomous body, you need your employer's permission and must produce the original no-objection certificate when called.
- Communication: Hall tickets, call letters and later updates go to your registered email address or the ISRO website, so keep the same active email account throughout the recruitment.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyse systems within the selected engineering discipline
- Develop, test, and document hardware or software for space programmes
- Support subsystem integration, qualification, and mission-readiness reviews
- Investigate technical faults and recommend practical engineering fixes
- Coordinate with scientists, engineers, quality teams, and project groups
- Maintain technical records, test data, drawings, and configuration controls
- Follow safety, reliability, and quality standards at the assigned centre
