Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow in Mathematics for the project titled Advances in Domain Decomposition Method for Implicit Solvation Models. The fellow will work with Dr Abhinav Jha in the Department of Mathematics, where the project connects mathematical analysis with scientific software development. The central research problem is the analysis and numerical solution of linear and nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann equations, which are used to model electrostatic behaviour in molecular systems. The project is not limited to theoretical work: it also involves convergence analysis, Fast Multipole Method-based algorithms, implementation and testing. A notable part of the assignment is work with ddX, an open-source scientific computing package, so you should be comfortable moving between mathematical reasoning, code and numerical experiments. The preferred profile includes a strong foundation in one or more of finite element methods, domain decomposition methods, scientific computing and computational mathematics. Programming exposure in Python, C++, MATLAB or Fortran will help you contribute to the implementation side of the project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: This is a temporary research position supported under funding-agency norms, not a regular institute appointment.
• Tenure: The initial appointment runs for one year and may be extended. An extension is not automatic and remains tied to the project and institute decision.
• Academic record: The notification applies minimum grade standards from graduation onward and separate standards for Classes 10 and 12; your records should clearly show the corresponding percentage or equivalent grade.
• National-level qualification: The prescribed route includes NET or GATE, or selection through an accepted national examination run by a listed central department, agency or institution.
