IIT Indore JRF MEMS Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in its Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science for an AR&DB-supported research project linked to DRDO, Ministry of Defence. The work centres on developing single-phase BCC refractory high-entropy alloys for high-temperature use through machine-learning and experimental approaches. This is a focused materials-research opportunity for someone who wants to connect computational guidance with laboratory validation rather than work on only one side of the project.
The research team, led by Dr Sumanta Samal, will study how alloy processing changes phase evolution, high-temperature mechanical behaviour, corrosion and oxidation. You will work with results from optical microscopy and advanced tools such as SEM, EPMA, TEM, TG-DTA and APT, bringing those observations together into a processing-structure-property map. The project therefore suits someone comfortable moving carefully between sample preparation, characterisation data and scientific interpretation.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: The engagement is for a maximum of twelve months or until the project ends, whichever happens first. The appointment is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the basic academic requirement does not by itself guarantee an interview invitation. The project team will shortlist applicants on merit and its research needs.
- Interview communication: Only shortlisted applicants will receive interview details by email. The Google Meet link will also be shared directly with those applicants before the interview.
- Research fit: Preference is connected to national test qualification and relevant subject knowledge, so your application should clearly show how your background supports physical metallurgy, materials characterisation, solid-state physics or electrochemistry.
- Institute support: The fellowship carries HRA under IIT Indore rules, while day-to-day work remains tied to the project and the laboratory arrangements of the MEMS department.
Application Submission Notes
Send your application material by email to the Principal Investigator at sumanta@iiti.ac.in. Your email should contain a detailed bio-data, a statement of purpose and copies of your educational certificates, along with any other document that helps the project team assess your research preparation.
Use the statement of purpose to explain your fit for high-entropy alloy development and characterisation, especially any hands-on or academic exposure to the techniques named in the notice. Because interview communication is by email, provide an active address and check it regularly after applying; no separate public interview schedule is promised in the advertisement.
Responsibilities
- Develop single-phase BCC refractory high-entropy alloy samples under different processing conditions
- Study phase evolution and high-temperature mechanical behaviour of the prepared alloys
- Evaluate corrosion and oxidation behaviour across the selected processing routes
- Carry out materials characterisation using OM, SEM, EPMA, TEM, TG-DTA and APT as available
- Analyse experimental results alongside machine-learning outputs
- Prepare a processing-structure-property correlation chart for the investigated alloys
- Keep clear research records and support technical reporting for the project
