IIT Indore JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow for an advanced-materials project in its Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. The work is supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation through the Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant scheme. This is a project-linked research role at the Simrol campus in Madhya Pradesh, suited to someone who wants hands-on exposure to alloy design while working with a faculty-led research group.

The project, Unraveling Thermomigration Effects in High-Entropy Solder Alloys, examines how heat-driven atomic movement changes modern solder materials. You will connect computational thermodynamics and diffusion modelling with experimental material characterisation. The broader aim is to help design thermally stable materials for next-generation electronics, where joints and components must remain reliable under changing temperature conditions.

Dr. Vivek Verma is the principal investigator, and the fellowship sits at the intersection of physical metallurgy, phase transformations and scientific computing. Experience with tools such as Thermo-Calc and DICTRA can help you settle into the work quickly. The notice also gives preference to researchers who are serious about pursuing a PhD at IIT Indore, making this a useful bridge into long-term doctoral research for someone with a clear interest in materials science.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: The initial appointment is for one year and may be extended after a performance review, subject to the remaining project period.
  • Project-linked role: The position is temporary and ends with the project; it does not create a claim to a regular IIT Indore appointment.
  • Research commitment: Candidates who show a clear plan for doctoral study and sustained work on the project will receive preference.
  • Accommodation: Institute hostel space may be offered if available; otherwise the applicable house rent support will operate under the fellowship terms.
  • Shortlisting: Meeting the basic academic conditions does not automatically lead to an interview, because the research team will shortlist on merit and project fit.
  • Interview format: Shortlisted applicants will receive an email with the link for an online interview.

Application Submission Notes

Email one combined PDF to vivekv@iiti.ac.in with the subject "Application for the position of JRF (ANRF-PMECRG project)". The combined file should contain the material needed to establish your academic record, research interest and qualifying-test status.

Check the combined PDF before sending it, because the notice asks for all supporting material in a single file. Publication details may be included when relevant, and your statement of purpose should clearly connect your background with alloy thermodynamics, diffusion, characterisation or scientific computing.

Responsibilities

  • Model thermomigration and diffusion behaviour in high-entropy solder alloys
  • Run computational thermodynamics studies using relevant scientific tools
  • Prepare and characterise alloy samples for experimental comparison
  • Analyse phase changes, microstructures, and material-property relationships
  • Keep clear research records and organise simulation and laboratory data
  • Prepare technical findings for project reviews, reports, and research papers
