Exam Pattern
APPSC announces a single-level examination with no screening test. The notice specifies computer-based recruitment testing (CBRT), while the annexure separately describes conventional shorthand papers and practical computer testing.
Paper I for Both Posts
You answer 150 objective questions in General Studies and Mental Ability for 150 marks in 150 minutes. Topics include current affairs, science, Indian history, Andhra Pradesh geography, polity, economy, environment, disaster management, reasoning and data analysis.
English Reporter Paper II
English shorthand dictation runs at 150 words per minute for 5 minutes, covering 750 words. You get 90 minutes for longhand transcription. This paper carries 150 marks, making the written total 300 marks.
Telugu Reporter Paper II
Telugu shorthand dictation runs at 80 words per minute for 10 minutes, covering 800 words. You get 150 minutes for longhand transcription. This paper carries 150 marks, making the written total 300 marks.
Negative marking: Each wrong answer in an objective paper loses 1/3 of the marks assigned to that question.
Computer Proficiency Test
The practical Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) covers office automation using computers and associated software. You get 60 minutes for 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 30 for SC/ST/PBD, 35 for BC and 40 for OC.
- Computer basics: 20% of marks; assessment may use multiple-choice questions.
- Typing speed: 25% of marks, with qualifying norms where applicable.
- Document objects and organization: 15% of marks.
- Spreadsheets: 20% of marks.
- Presentations: 20% of marks.
Multiple sessions: APPSC may normalize marks when necessary and will announce the method separately.
