WII Scientist D/E/F/G Recruitment 2026: Overview

Wildlife Institute of India (WII), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is bringing experienced officers into its scientific faculty through deputation. The assignments connect policy, field conservation, professional training and applied wildlife research, so the institute is looking for people who already understand public institutions or established research organisations. The grade offered will depend on the selected officer's seniority and qualifying service, which makes this a common recruitment window for several scientist levels rather than four separate drives.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Ecodevelopment Planning and Participatory Management: this role works where conservation programmes meet local communities, livelihoods and shared management of natural resources.
  • Wildlife and Protected Area Management: the officer supports the management of protected landscapes, conservation practice, training and advice for wildlife agencies.
  • WII-SACON, Coimbatore: the senior scientist assignment is linked to the institute's ornithology and natural-history work in Tamil Nadu, subject to the final posting decision.

Post-wise Duties

Ecodevelopment Planning Scientist

You will connect participatory planning with conservation programmes, contribute to training and research, and help turn field evidence into practical guidance for managers and communities.

Wildlife and Protected Area Management Scientist

You will support protected-area management, conservation education and professional training. Your work may include research, advisory inputs and institutional assignments that match your specialist background.

WII-SACON Scientist

You will contribute senior scientific leadership to ornithology, ecology and conservation research at the Coimbatore centre. The institute may align the final portfolio with its programme needs and your core competence.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Deputation framework: service conditions follow the applicable Government of India orders for IFS, State Forest Service and other service officers.
  • Grade placement: selection does not guarantee a particular scientist level; WII will place the officer at the appropriate level under the notified service criteria.
  • Posting flexibility: Dehradun is the headquarters for the posts, while one senior role is likely at Coimbatore. Selected officers may serve at another institute location when the work needs it.
  • Department allocation: WII may place an officer in ecology, species management, wildlife health, GIS, conservation policy, genetics, forensics or zoo-management work according to expertise.
  • Parent-cadre clearance: applications move through the proper channel, and the lending organisation must be able to release the selected officer within the stated administrative window.
  • Facilities: residential accommodation depends on availability; working space, a computer and network access are provided without secretarial support.

Application Submission Notes

Send the typed application through the proper channel to The Director, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun 248001, Uttarakhand by Speed Post or courier. An advance copy is allowed, but the forwarding department must supply vigilance clearance, the required performance records and service certifications.

Corrigenda and Notices

  • Extension notice issued in August 2026: WII extended the receipt deadline while keeping every other condition of the original advertisement unchanged.
