About This Job
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is hiring 1 Security Officer on deputation basis at its headquarters in New Delhi. This is a Group 'B' Gazetted (Non-Ministerial) post in Level 8 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100). You need a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of security experience. UPSC Security Officer Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post
The Union Public Service Commission, India's premier constitutional body for civil services recruitment, has released Vacancy Circular No. A-35020/02/2026-Admn.II dated 03 March 2026 to fill one vacancy of Security Officer in its own office at Dholpur House, New Delhi. The Security Officer is responsible for campus security, intelligence gathering, CISF coordination, and examination security at the UPSC headquarters. This is an excellent opportunity for serving officers in security and intelligence agencies of the Central Government.
Who Can Apply?
This post is open only to serving government officers through the Composite method (Deputation plus Promotion). You must currently be working in one of these Security-cum-Intelligence agencies of the Government of India:
- Intelligence Bureau (IB)
- Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)
- Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
- Border Security Force (BSF)
- Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
- Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
- Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
Service Requirements (any one of these)
- Holding analogous posts on regular basis in your parent cadre or department, OR
- 2 years' regular service in Level 7 (Rs. 44,900-1,42,400) or equivalent in your parent cadre, OR
- 6 years' regular service in Level 6 (Rs. 35,400-1,12,400) or equivalent in your parent cadre
Educational Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent
- 2 years' experience in organising security arrangements, gathering information and intelligence relating to various aspects of security
Note: A Departmental Officer holding the post of Security Assistant in Level 6 (Rs. 35,400-1,12,400) with 6 years' regular service and the required qualification and experience will also be considered along with outsiders through deputation.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications
- The deputation period (including any previous deputation in another post) in the same or other organisations or departments of the Central Government shall not exceed 3 years
Salary
- Pay Level: Level 8 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix
- Pay Scale: Rs. 47,600 - 1,51,100 per month (basic pay)
- Grade Pay: Rs. 4,800 (pre-revised)
- Dearness Allowance: As per Central Government rates (currently around 53% of basic pay)
- HRA: 27% of basic pay for X-class cities (Delhi), 18% for Y-class cities, 9% for Z-class cities
- Transport Allowance: Rs. 3,600 per month (for higher TPTA cities)
- Approximate gross salary: Rs. 85,000 - 90,000 per month (at entry level, in Delhi)
- Pay will be regulated under DoPT O.M. No. 6/8/2009-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 17/06/2010
Selection Process

Responsibilities
- Maintain constant surveillance over the UPSC campus and ensure all security instructions are followed
- Collect intelligence related to the conduct of examinations, particularly Civil Services, NDA, and CDS, and identify threats to UPSC functioning
- Monitor the process of conduct of examinations and major recruitment tests, and keep higher authorities briefed about security arrangements
- Check the deployment arrangements of CISF and conduct surprise checking of CISF personnel and connected security arrangements
- Conduct checks of perimeter walls, fencing, grills, locks of rooms and sensitive sections, and report any lapses detected
- Perform surprise checks of movement of people and vehicles at entry/exit points to prevent unauthorized access
- Conduct regular checks on security light arrangements within the UPSC premises and ensure no material or documents are taken out without proper authority
- Supervise functioning of the CCTV control room manned by CISF and submit periodic reports on all security-related aspects of UPSC
