About This Job

State Bank of India (SBI) is hiring 7150 Apprentices across India under the Apprentices Act, 1961. If you are a graduate in any stream aged 20 to 28 years, you can apply online. The stipend is Rs. 15,000 per month for the one-year training period. The last date to apply is 8 June 2026. The online exam is expected in July 2026.

State Bank of India (SBI), through its Central Recruitment & Promotion Department (CRPD), Mumbai, has released notification CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07 for engaging 7150 apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The seats are spread across all states and union territories, so you apply for one state of your choice. This is an apprenticeship, not a permanent job or contract employment — apprentices are not treated as SBI employees. However, those who successfully complete the training get weightage/relaxation in future SBI Junior Associate recruitment. Freshers with a graduation degree should apply.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must have a graduation degree in any stream from a recognised university or institute as on 1 April 2026.
  • Local language: You should be proficient in one of the specified local languages of the state you apply for (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding).
  • One state only: You can apply for one state only and appear for the exam only once under this project.
  • No prior apprenticeship: You must NOT have done apprenticeship training before in SBI or any other organisation.
  • Candidates with one year or more of training/job experience after graduation are not eligible.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 20 and 28 years old as on 1 April 2026 (born between 02-04-1998 and 01-04-2006, both days inclusive).
  • Age Relaxation: Upper age relaxation applies for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates as per Government of India guidelines.
  • No reservation or relaxation is available for Ex-Servicemen in this apprentice engagement.

Stipend

  • You will get a stipend of Rs. 15,000 per month for the one-year engagement period.
  • Apprentices are not eligible for any other allowances or benefits.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 300
  • SC / ST / PwBD: No fee
  • Payment mode: Online (debit card / credit card / internet banking)
  • The fee is non-refundable.

Selection Process

Selection is done in these stages:

  1. Online Written Test: 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes. There is negative marking of 1/4th mark for each wrong answer. Merit list is drawn state-wise and category-wise.
  2. Test of Local Language: Conducted after the written exam to check proficiency in the opted local language. If you produce a 10th or 12th class mark sheet/certificate showing you studied the opted local language, you are exempt from this test.
  3. Medical Examination: You must be declared medically fit as per the bank's requirement.

How to Apply

  1. First register on the NAPS portal at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in (this is mandatory).
  2. Go to the SBI careers page at sbi.co.in/careers or sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings.
  3. Open the Apprentice application form and register (note your registration number and password).
  4. Fill in the form and upload your photo, signature, and documents.
  5. Pay the fee online and submit the application.
  6. Take a printout of the application for your record. Do not send any hard copy to SBI.

Responsibilities

  • Learn day-to-day branch banking operations during the training period
  • Assist staff at the branch counter and help customers with basic queries
  • Handle account opening forms, deposits, and document collection
  • Enter customer data into the bank's software systems accurately
  • Support digital banking and financial inclusion activities
  • Follow bank rules, KYC norms, and data privacy guidelines
  • Complete the skill evaluation (trade) test for the National Apprenticeship Certificate

Proficiency in the specified local language of the applied state (reading, writing, speaking, understanding); computer aptitude

Exam Pattern

The online written test has 100 questions for 100 marks. You get 60 minutes in total, with each section separately timed.

Subject-wise Breakdown

  • General/Financial Awareness: 25 questions (25 marks), 15 minutes
  • General English: 25 questions (25 marks), 15 minutes
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 25 questions (25 marks), 15 minutes
  • Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude: 25 questions (25 marks), 15 minutes

Negative Marking: 1/4th of the marks for a question is deducted for each wrong answer.

Exam Language: English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages depending on the state (General English section is in English only).

Exam Type: Objective (MCQ), online. Merit list is prepared state-wise and category-wise.
