Sports Authority of India (SAI) Deputy Director Recruitment 2026 - 19 Posts

Sports Authority of India (SAI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, with a mandate to develop and promote sports across the country. SAI works to help Indian athletes reach international standards and maintains sports infrastructure and trained coaches nationwide to support this mission. To run this large network of divisions and centres, SAI has invited applications to fill 19 Deputy Director posts on deputation from eligible Central and State Government officers. As Deputy Director, you will work as a Section Head handling sports administration, policy implementation, and programme management for the divisions or centres assigned to you. Postings are on an All-India basis at SAI centres where its sports development schemes are implemented, so you should be ready to work at any SAI location across the country. SAI runs national programmes such as Khelo India, Fit India, and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) to identify, train, and support talented athletes, and the Deputy Director you replace will have been managing one such division or centre.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must be a serving officer under the Central Government, State Government, or Union Territory Administration (including attached or subordinate offices).
  • Eligibility (any one): You should be holding an analogous post as Deputy Director (Level-11) or equivalent in your parent cadre/department, OR have at least 5 years of regular service in Pay Level-10 (Rs. 56,100 - Rs. 1,77,500).
  • Mode of Appointment: Deputation, for a period of 3 years.
  • Terms of Deputation: Your posting will follow the standard Terms and Conditions on deputation notified by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoP&T), and your parent department will need to relieve you before you can join SAI.
  • Selection Basis: Only officers who fully satisfy the eligibility conditions listed above will be considered — partial matches or applications missing required certificates will not move forward in the process.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation is 56 years as on the opening date of receipt of application.

Salary

  • Selected officers will get a salary of Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700 per month under Level-11 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process

There is no written exam for this post. The selection will be done in these steps:

  1. Screening of Applications: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be shortlisted.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
  3. Merit List: The Selection Committee constituted by the Competent Authority will prepare a merit list based on the interview.

This is a deputation-basis appointment for a fixed 3-year term — completing your tenure at SAI does not create any right to permanent absorption, and you will return to your parent cadre once the deputation period ends.

How to Apply

  1. Download the application format (Annexure-I) from www.sportsauthorityofindia.nic.in.
  2. Fill in the Curriculum Vitae Proforma with your personal, educational, and service details.
  3. Get your application signed and countersigned by your Cadre/Appointing Authority.
  4. Attach attested copies of your ACRs/APARs for the last 5 years (each page signed by an officer of the rank of Under Secretary to the Government of India or above), an Integrity Certificate, a Vigilance Clearance Certificate, a certificate confirming no major or minor penalty in the last 5 years, and a Cadre Clearance Certificate.
  5. Send your application (in duplicate) through proper channel to the Director (Human Resources Division-II), Sports Authority of India, Head Office, Gate No. 10 (East Gate), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003.

If you are unsure about any part of the eligibility criteria or the application format, it is a good idea to check with your cadre-controlling authority before submitting your application, since incomplete or wrongly routed applications are unlikely to be considered.

You can send an advance copy of your application, but your candidature will only be considered final once your application is received through proper channel with all required documents.

  • Notification Date: 24 July 2026
