Law and Legal Affairs Department (Rajasthan) Notary Public Recruitment 2026 - 1063 Posts

The Law and Legal Affairs Department, Government of Rajasthan has released Notification No. P.20(01)Nyay/2025 dated 09 June 2026, inviting applications for 1063 vacant Notary Public posts spread across nearly every district of Rajasthan — from Ajmer and Beawar to Alwar, Kotputli-Bahrod, Banswara and Baran, right down to individual tehsils and towns. Practicing advocates as well as retired judicial officers and government law officials can apply, but only for one specific tehsil/town where they wish to practise as a notary. Applying for more than one place will get all your applications automatically rejected. A Notary Public appointed under this notification is authorized to authenticate documents, administer oaths and certify affidavits for the public in their assigned local area, which makes this a valuable professional credential for practicing advocates looking to add notarial work to their practice.

Vacancy Spread Across Rajasthan

The 1063 notary posts are distributed at the tehsil/town level across all districts. A few examples straight from the notification:

  • Ajmer district: 33 posts spread over Ajmer, Pushkar, Kishangarh, Kekri and other tehsils
  • Beawar district: 19 posts spread over Beawar, Bar, Masuda, Jaitaran and other tehsils
  • Alwar district: 30 posts spread over Alwar, Rajgarh, Thanagazi, Kathumar and other tehsils
  • Banswara district: 20 posts spread over Banswara, Ghatol, Sajjangarh and other tehsils

Check the full notification PDF on the department website for the exact number of posts at your preferred location.

Who Can Apply?

Practicing Advocates (apply in Form I):

  • You must be a practicing advocate with at least 10 years of legal practice.
  • SC/ST/OBC candidates: at least 7 years of practice is enough.
  • Women advocates: at least 7 years of practice as a legal practitioner is enough.
  • You should reside in, or intend to practise in, the specific tehsil/town you apply for.

Judicial Officers and Government Law Officials (apply in Form II):

You can apply for only one location. Submitting applications for more than one tehsil/town gets all of them automatically rejected. No previous application should have been rejected or withdrawn in the preceding 6 months.

Selection Process

Your application goes through 4 stages before final appointment:

  1. Scrutiny by Competent Authority: The District Judge or Presiding Officer of the court where you practise checks your application for completeness and eligibility, and rejects incomplete or ineligible applications.
  2. Objections Invited: The Bar Council, Bar Association, or Incorporated Law Society of your area may raise objections to your appointment as a notary.
  3. Recommendation: After giving you a chance to respond to any objections, the competent authority sends its recommendation to the state government.
  4. Interview and Final Appointment: If the government allows, you may be called before an Interview Board (headed by an officer of Joint Secretary/Law Officer rank) to judge your competency. Final appointment is made by the Rajasthan Government.

While making its recommendation, the competent authority also weighs factors such as whether you already reside in the area you want to practise in, the commercial importance of that area and how many notaries already serve it, your knowledge and experience of commercial law, and whether you belong to a firm of legal practitioners that already has a notary among its members.
