The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), on behalf of the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Societies, has released two notifications — one for the Kalyana-Karnataka (KK) local cadre (320 posts) and one for the Rest of the State (RPC) cadre (767 posts) — for a combined 1,087 Teacher vacancies in schools run under the Morarji Desai, Kittur Rani Chennamma, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Smt. Indira Gandhi, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar residential school groups. Both notifications share the same online application window and written exam pattern, so graduates in Kannada, English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Science, Physical Education, Computer Science, and Drawing subjects can apply for the cadre matching their local eligibility.

320 posts (277 regular + 43 backlog) are under the Kalyana-Karnataka local cadre, and 767 posts (725 regular + 42 backlog) are under the Rest of the State cadre.

Who Can Apply?

For Kannada, English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Science and Physical Education Teachers:

  • You need a Bachelor's degree with the relevant subject as your main/optional subject, plus a B.Ed degree (with methods in the relevant subject where applicable).
  • You must have qualified Karnataka TET (Paper-2) or CTET to apply for Kannada, English, Hindi, Maths, Science, and Social Science posts.

For Drawing Teachers (KK cadre only):

  • Graduate Drawing Teacher: Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts/Visual Arts (B.F.A./B.V.A.), or an Art Master diploma with the qualifying technical exam as per Government Order.
  • Diploma Drawing Teacher: Diploma in drawing/painting/commerce or allied arts recognized by the Technical Examination Board.

Kannada Language Requirement:

  • If you did not study Kannada as a first or second language up to SSLC, you must clear a separate Kannada Language Test with a minimum of 35 out of 150 marks — failing this makes you ineligible for appointment, regardless of your written exam merit.

Age Limit

  • You should be at least 18 years old.
  • General category candidates can apply up to 45 years.
  • Category 2A/2B/3A/3B candidates can apply up to 48 years.
  • SC/ST and Category-1 candidates can apply up to 50 years.
  • Age Relaxation: Government/local body employees with continuous service get up to 5 years' relaxation, ex-servicemen get their service period plus 3 years, and additional relaxation applies for NCC instructors, widows, and other specified categories as per the Karnataka Civil Services Rules, 1977.

Salary

  • Kannada, English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Science, Physical Education and Computer Teachers get Rs. 54,175 to Rs. 99,400 per month under the revised 2024 state pay scale.
  • Graduate and Diploma Drawing Teachers get Rs. 49,050 to Rs. 92,500 per month.
  • You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Karnataka Government rules, along with NPS benefits (no old-style pension/CPF).

Application Fee

  • General / Category 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B: Rs. 750 (Rs. 500 application fee + Rs. 250 processing fee)
  • SC / ST / Category-1 / Ex-servicemen / Third Gender: Rs. 500 (Rs. 250 application fee + Rs. 250 processing fee)
  • Special Pay (PwBD) candidates: Rs. 250 (processing fee only)
  • Payment mode: Online through the KEA portal. The processing fee is non-refundable.

Selection Process

KEA selects candidates in the following stages:

  1. Competitive Written Exam (Offline-OMR type): Two papers of 100 questions for 100 marks each, with 2 hours per paper. Paper-1 covers general knowledge, current affairs, and Karnataka-specific topics; Paper-2 is subject-specific (syllabus published separately). 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer, and you must score at least 35% to qualify.
  2. Kannada Language Test (only if you have not studied Kannada up to SSLC) — minimum 35 out of 150 marks required.
  3. Document Verification

Your final merit is based on your total written exam marks, subject to meeting all eligibility and document verification requirements.

  • Teach the assigned subject to students in the residential school as per the syllabus
  • Prepare lesson plans and classroom teaching material
  • Conduct tests, evaluate answer sheets, and track student progress
  • Maintain student attendance and academic records
  • Guide and mentor students living on the residential campus
  • Participate in co-curricular activities, sports, and cultural programs
  • Coordinate with school administration on academic planning
  • Follow all rules and safety guidelines of the residential institution

Exam Pattern

The written exam has two papers, each with 100 questions for 100 marks, and you get 2 hours per paper.

Paper-wise Breakdown

  • Paper-1 (General Studies): 100 questions, 100 marks, 2 hours — covers general knowledge, current affairs, Indian and Karnataka history, the Indian Constitution, Karnataka's economy and social development, rural development, and general reasoning ability.

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
