PAU Junior Lab/Field Helper Recruitment 2026: Overview

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, is hiring Junior Lab/Field Helpers for two research schemes run by its School of Agricultural Biotechnology. Both are contractual posts tied to the schemes, with a first term of six months. If you have studied up to the middle level with Punjabi and have worked on crop fields or in a farm lab, this is a simple way into university research work.

Posts and Disciplines

• Wheat scheme (CSS-05, PC-6387): supports the project Genome-wide introgression of tetraploid non-progenitor Aegilops peregrina (UUSS) in hexaploid wheat background and mapping of multiple disease resistance. Experience with wheat sowing, harvesting and crossing, and with looking after wild wheat germplasm, is desirable.
• Rice scheme (ICAR-77, PC-2331): part of Incentivizing Research in Agriculture Project IV, on the molecular genetic analysis of resistance and tolerance to different stresses in rice. Experience with rice sowing, harvesting, crossing and germplasm upkeep is desirable. This position pays a small extra monthly amount over the base pay.

For both positions, preference goes to people already helping with field experiments or handling lab samples.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Six months in the first instance. The university can end the service at any time without notice.
• Leaving early: If you quit, you must deposit one month's salary, or give one month's notice and pay for any shortfall.
• Reservation: 25% of posts go to SC/ST and 12% to backward classes of Punjab state; 13% are for ex-servicemen and 3% for persons with disabilities.
• Interview costs: No TA/DA is paid for attending the selection committee.

No separate interview letter will be sent. You must turn up before the selection committee at the Director's office on the notified day and bring your original certificates.

• Assist with sowing, harvesting and crossing operations in wheat or rice field plots
• Handle and maintain wild wheat germplasm and its crosses for the wheat scheme
• Handle and maintain rice germplasm and crosses for the rice stress-tolerance scheme
• Help scientists run field experiments under the scheme
• Handle samples sent for laboratory analysis
