NU Project Assistant Urban Floods Recruitment 2026: Overview
Nagaland University (NU) is engaging Project Assistants for the study titled Managing Urban Floods in Dimapur: A Scientific Study. The work brings science and social-science research together under the university's Political Science research setup at Lumami. The project is designed around Dimapur's urban-flood problem, so the team needs both technical environmental inputs and an understanding of people, institutions and city-level responses.
If your interests sit at the meeting point of field research, data and public policy, this project offers practical exposure to a locally important problem. The engagement is project-based rather than a route to a regular university post, and each work stream has its own research focus and tenure.
Posts and Disciplines
- Science stream: supports the physical and spatial side of the flood study, including environmental data, hydrological interpretation and map-based evidence. Knowledge of hydrological modelling, remote sensing and GIS will be useful in this stream.
- Social Science stream: supports the human and institutional side of the study through surveys, quantitative evidence and analysis of how communities and agencies respond to urban flooding. Comfort with quantitative research will help you contribute from the start.
Post-wise Duties
Project Assistant — Science
You will help organise scientific information about flooding in Dimapur, support spatial or remote-sensing work and keep research material ready for analysis. Your role may also involve coordinating technical inputs with the wider project team so that environmental findings connect clearly with the study questions.
Project Assistant — Social Science
You will support survey-based and quantitative research, organise field information and help turn responses into usable evidence. You may work with the team on research notes, data tables and background material that explains the social and administrative side of the flood issue.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: the Science engagement runs for nine months, while the Social Science engagement runs for six months. These are fixed project appointments and do not create a claim to a regular university position.
- Work base: the interview and project coordination are linked to Nagaland University's Lumami headquarters; the research itself concerns urban flooding in Dimapur.
- Discipline fit: apply for the stream that matches your postgraduate background and research strengths, because the two roles support different parts of the same study.
Application Submission Notes
This is a walk-in recruitment, so there is no online application form or postal submission. Report to the Department of Political Science, Nagaland University, Lumami for the interview at 2:00 pm. Bring your academic records with you so the university can check your claimed qualifications at the venue.
Responsibilities
- Collect and organise research material for the Dimapur urban-flood study
- Support fieldwork, surveys, mapping, or data collection for the assigned stream
- Prepare clean research notes, data tables, and project records
- Analyse scientific or social-science evidence with the project team
- Coordinate research inputs across the project's technical and policy themes
- Help prepare findings, presentations, and progress material for the principal investigator
