National Law University of Meghalaya (NLU Meghalaya) Assistant Librarian Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
NLU Meghalaya, based at the Mayurbhanj Complex in Nongthymmai, Shillong, has released a notification (Ref: NLUM/Rect/AL/115/2023/1334 dated 30 July 2026) for 1 Assistant Librarian post on a tenure basis of 3 years. As one of India's national law universities, NLU Meghalaya runs undergraduate and postgraduate legal education programmes, and its library is central to supporting the research and academic needs of students and faculty. This is a good opportunity if you have hands-on experience with digital library management, cataloguing, and knowledge management systems at a modern academic library. In-service candidates can also apply — you can apply through the proper channel, or submit an advance copy of your application and produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer later if you are shortlisted.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: The notification states the qualification is as per UGC norms. Under current UGC rules, this generally means a Master's Degree in Library Science/Information Science with at least 55% marks along with a NET/SET qualification, or a Ph.D. in Library Science. If you already hold a Ph.D. in the subject, the NET/SET requirement is typically waived.
- In-Service Candidates: If you are currently employed elsewhere, you can apply through the proper channel at your organisation. Alternatively, you can submit an advance copy of your application now and produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer only if you are shortlisted for the next stage.
Key Experience You Should Have:
- Good knowledge of Digital Library management, Information Technology, and Knowledge Management Systems — you should be comfortable working with library automation software and digital repositories.
- Experience in the procurement of library resources, including books, journals, and digital subscriptions.
- Managing acquisition, accessioning, cataloguing, classification, and circulation of library resources using standard library classification systems.
- Experience with stock verification and weeding of outdated or damaged library materials as part of routine library maintenance.
Salary
- The notification lists the pay scale as "As per UGC" without stating an exact figure. Assistant Librarian posts at universities are usually placed at Academic Level 10 of the UGC Pay Matrix (7th CPC), with pay ranging from around Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month depending on your experience and increments.
- You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as applicable under university rules, in addition to your basic pay.
- Since this is a 3-year tenure post, your engagement terms and any renewal will be governed by the university's service rules at the time of appointment.
Application Fee
- General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 1,000 (non-refundable)
- SC / ST: Rs. 500 (non-refundable)
- Payment mode: Bank transfer to the university's account — Account Name: National Law University of Meghalaya, Account No: 50100725762226, IFSC: HDFC0004727.
- You must upload proof of payment with your online application. Your application form is treated as successfully completed only after the payment is verified by the university, so make sure your transaction details are clear and correct before uploading.
Selection Process
The university will select candidates through the following stages:
- Written Test (if conducted): Eligible candidates may need to appear for a written test as part of the shortlisting process, at the university's discretion.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview at NLU Meghalaya's Shillong campus.
No TA/DA will be given for attending the written test or interview, or at any other stage of the selection process. Simply meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that you will be shortlisted or called for the written test/interview — the university will shortlist candidates based on their qualifications and experience.
Note: Records of candidates who are not selected will not be kept beyond 6 months from the date the select list is published. The university also reserves the right to cancel, withdraw, modify, or amend this recruitment, wholly or partly, at any stage of the process without giving any reason, and its decision in this regard will be final and binding.
