National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) Project Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar), under the Office of the Dean (Research & Consultancy), has released a notification for 1 Project Assistant post under a DST-NCSTC, Government of India-sponsored project (Sanction No. DST/NCST/SCT/FP/05/2025 (G)). The project is titled "A voice-controlled, regional language-integrated DIY rapid prototyping machine for cognitive learning in additive manufacturing" and is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Simanchal Kar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Project Assistant will help build a voice-integrated programming module for a 3D printer meant for school demonstrations. This is a temporary position for 3 years or until the project ends, whichever is earlier, with possible extension based on a yearly performance review. If you enjoy hands-on work with 3D printing, coding, and hardware, this project gives you real research exposure at a National Institute of Technology.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: BSc or Diploma in Engineering and Technology (minimum 3 years)
  • Desirable Experience: Experience in Python, CNC programming, or any programming language compatible with 3D printers and 3D scanner modules

You do not need prior job experience to apply, but hands-on exposure to programming and 3D printer/scanner hardware will strengthen your application.

Age Limit

  • You should not be above 45 years old as on the last date of the advertisement (12 August 2026).
  • Age Relaxation: Applicable as per Government of India rules for reserved category candidates.

Salary

  • You will get a salary of Rs. 20,000 per month.
  • You will also get House Rent Allowance (HRA) up to Rs. 2,000 per month if you do not use institute accommodation, as per project/institute norms.

Selection Process (Interview Only)

The selection will be done through:

  1. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The Institute may restrict the number of candidates called for interview based on screening, and no candidate will be recruited if a suitable candidate is not found. The date, time, and mode (online or offline) will be notified through email. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview or joining the post.

If you are currently employed, you must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer at the time of the interview. Selected candidates will need to sign an agreement with the Institute at the time of joining.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test a voice-integrated programming module for a 3D printer used in school demonstrations
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with day-to-day project experiments and documentation
  • Handle 3D printer and 3D scanner hardware, including calibration and troubleshooting
  • Write and debug code in Python or other compatible programming languages
  • Prepare progress reports and maintain project records for the sponsoring agency (DST-NCSTC)
  • Support demonstrations and outreach activities related to additive manufacturing for schools
  • Coordinate with the Department of Mechanical Engineering for lab access and resources
