NIT Silchar Postdoctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) is offering Postdoctoral Fellowships under Phase II of the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) sponsors the scheme for research across the institute's computing and electronics-related departments. This is a full-time, temporary research engagement at Silchar, with an institutional mentor guiding the proposed research.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Computer Science Engineering: Research areas include machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, language processing, computer vision and data science. The department also lists communications, security, cryptography, quantum and distributed computing, blockchain, multimedia, bioinformatics and health informatics.
  • Electrical Engineering: Areas span control of cyber-physical and biomedical systems, socio-psychological modelling, intelligent instrumentation and signal processing. Device and circuit topics include semiconductors, packaging, wide-bandgap devices, power conversion, electric-vehicle charging, embedded systems, memory design and power-management circuits.
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering: The scope includes analog and digital circuits, signal processing, semiconductor modelling, microelectronics, nanoelectronics and biosensors. Other listed areas cover solar cells, wireless and optical communications, satellite systems, antennas, metamaterials, information theory, energy harvesting and perovskite materials.
  • Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering: Work can address energy storage, renewable energy, healthcare automation, drug delivery and flexible electronics. The notice also covers nanosensors, communications, blockchain, artificial intelligence in biomedical and energy applications, and emerging memory materials and technologies.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The fellowship runs for up to one year. The scheme does not permit support beyond that period.
  • Location and transfer: This is a full-time appointment tenable only in India. The fellowship cannot be transferred to another institution.
  • Mentoring: The institution identifies a suitable mentor for the proposed research. That mentor must hold a regular academic or research appointment at a recognised Indian institution and a PhD in Science or Engineering.
  • Research focus: Your proposal forms the basis of the proposed work, with defined objectives, outcomes and deliverables. The scheme gives preference to proposals addressing industry-specific problems and applicants with active industry links.
  • Maternity leave: Female fellows may receive fellowship support during maternity leave for up to six months, within the overall maximum of 12 months of support. Only the fellowship component is payable during that leave.
  • Attendance costs: Travel and daily allowances are not paid. If called to attend, you must arrange your own stay.
  • Communication: NIT Silchar will contact shortlisted applicants by email. Keep the address in your application available for further communication.
