NIEPMD Lecturer and Therapy Consultant Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) in Chennai is hiring a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology, a Tutor-Clinical Assistant in Occupational Therapy and a Rehabilitation Officer (Therapeutics). NIEPMD works under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, from its campus at Muttukadu on the East Coast Road, Kovalam.

All three are full-time consultant positions on contract, filled under Manpower Engagement Notification No. 07/2026 — they are not regular government posts. Posts and Disciplines

• Lecturer (Clinical Psychology): a consultant role for clinical psychologists who hold an M.Phil; a valid Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) registration is compulsory.
• Tutor-Clinical Assistant (Occupational Therapy): for occupational therapists — either a graduate who already has teaching, clinical or research experience, or a postgraduate in occupational therapy. Earlier work with persons with multiple disabilities gives you an edge.
• Rehabilitation Officer – Therapeutics: open to both physiotherapy and occupational therapy graduates with relevant experience; experience with multiple disabilities is again a plus.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract only: The positions are filled purely on a contractual basis and follow the institute's engagement rules as the Ministry frames or changes them.
• Tenure: The first term is up to three years, renewed on the basis of your performance appraisal. With Governing Council approval it can go beyond three years, but never past five years in total.
• Leave: You earn 1.5 days of paid leave for every completed month of service.
• Full-time and exclusive: You cannot take up any other commercial assignment while you hold the consultancy, and you may be given other tasks linked to the goals of the institute and the department.
• Posting and transfer: You may work at NIEPMD Chennai or any of its sub-centres and outreach centres, and you can be transferred to any office in India under NIEPMD's control.
• Notice period: The institute can end the engagement with 30 days' notice without giving reasons. If you want to leave, you give 30 days' notice or pay that month's amount instead.
• No canvassing: Any political or official pressure on your behalf disqualifies your application.
• Cancellation: NIEPMD can cancel the advertisement in full or in part; if it does, the fee you paid is not refunded.
• Data retention: Applications of candidates who are not shortlisted are kept for six months after the offer letter goes out.
