NHAI Chief General Manager (Finance & Accounts) Recruitment 2026 – 1 Post

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, has released a recruitment notification for the post of Chief General Manager (Finance & Accounts) — a Group-A post at the apex of NHAI's finance structure. This post can be filled either by promotion of internal NHAI candidates or by deputation from Central/State Government officers and PSU/autonomous body employees. Candidates selected for this post will carry an all-India service liability, meaning you must be willing to serve anywhere in India. The appointment is made through a Search-cum-Selection Committee.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Educational Qualification

  • Chartered Accountant (CA); or
  • Cost & Management Accountant (CMA); or
  • Master in Business Administration (Finance) from a recognised university or institute; or
  • Member of any organised Group-A Finance or Accounts Service of the Central Government or State Government

Experience Required (along with qualification above)

  • 17 years of regular service in posts with substantive pay scale of Level 10 of Pay Matrix (Rs. 56,100–1,77,500) or equivalent or higher
  • Out of 17 years, at least 10 years must be in any of: Finance Accounting, Budgeting, Internal Audit, Contract Management, Fund Management, or Disbursement in a reputed organisation

By Promotion (Internal NHAI Candidates)

  • Must currently hold the post of General Manager (Finance & Accounts) in NHAI
  • Must have 3 years of regular service in that post
  • Must have 17 years regular service at Level 10 or above

By Deputation (Government/PSU Officers)

  • Officers from Central Government, State Governments, Union Territories, Universities, recognised Research Institutions, PSUs, Semi-Government, Statutory or Autonomous Organisations and other Government Bodies
  • Either holding an analogous post on regular basis at Level-14 (Rs. 1,44,200–2,18,200) in parent cadre; or
  • With 3 years regular service at Level 13 (Rs. 1,23,100–2,15,900) or equivalent
  • Must also possess the essential qualification and experience mentioned above
  • Applicants in PSUs or Public Sector Banks may refer to NHAI circulars on pay equivalency (CDA vs IDA / CDA vs PSB)

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 58 years as on the last date for receipt of online applications (8 May 2026)
  • You must have more than 2 years of remaining service before superannuation in your parent department as on 8 May 2026
  • The age of superannuation for those on deputation in NHAI is 60 years or as applicable in the parent organisation, whichever is less

Salary

  • Pay Matrix Level-14: Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200 per month
  • Plus Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) and other allowances as per Central Government / NHAI rules
  • For deputation appointments, leave salary and pension contribution will be paid by NHAI as per Government rules

Selection Process

Selection is through a Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted by NHAI — there is no written exam or physical test for this post.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all finance, accounts, and budgeting operations of NHAI at the highest executive level
  • Manage internal audit functions, fund disbursement, and financial risk across national highway projects
  • Supervise contract management processes from a financial compliance perspective
  • Prepare and review annual budgets, financial statements, and MIS reports for NHAI leadership
  • Ensure compliance with Central Government financial rules, CAG guidelines, and statutory requirements
  • Liaise with Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Finance Ministry, and external auditors on financial matters
  • Lead a team of finance and accounts officers across NHAI's national project offices
