NIT Kurukshetra Junior Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra), a central institute under the Ministry of Education, is hiring Junior Engineers in the Civil and Electrical streams under Advertisement No. 28/2026. These are contract engagements for a fixed one-year term to look after the campus's buildings, roads, water and power systems. There is no online form — you simply walk in with your documents on the interview day. Both engineering graduates and first-class diploma holders with a strong academic record can try.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Junior Engineer (Civil): campus civil works — construction, repairs and upkeep of institute buildings, hostels, roads, drains, sewerage and water supply. Seats are split between the unreserved and SC categories.
  • Junior Engineer (Electrical): the institute's electrical network — HT/LT systems, transformers, DG sets, UPS, solar plants and lighting. This seat is reserved for OBC candidates.

Post-wise Duties

Junior Engineer (Civil)

You will help plan and draw up estimates, BOQs, drawings and tender papers for new works and repairs, then supervise contractors on site to make sure the work matches the approved specifications and BIS standards. You will record measurements in the Measurement Books, check contractors' bills, attend to complaints from departments, hostels and staff quarters, and keep site records and progress reports up to date.

Junior Engineer (Electrical)

You will handle the day-to-day operation and preventive maintenance of the campus electrical systems, respond to breakdowns, and help test and commission new installations. The role also covers earthing and lightning protection, compliance with CEA regulations, tracking energy use and pushing energy-saving and renewable-energy measures, and coordinating with the power distribution company and electrical inspectors.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Nature of engagement: Purely contractual and temporary under the NITSER Act, 2007 and Statute 28(2), for a fixed period of one year. The contract ends on its own when the year is over.
  • Extension: Possible for up to two more years, only through a written order and based on performance, conduct and the institute's need. Just continuing to work does not count as an extension.
  • No regularisation: The contract gives no right to a regular post, absorption or seniority, however long you serve.
  • Notice period: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice or one month's pay in lieu.
  • Tax: The fixed pay is treated as a professional fee, so TDS is deducted under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
  • Agreement: After joining you sign a contract on Rs. 100 non-judicial stamp paper, attested by a Notary, covering confidentiality, ethics and integrity.
  • Exit clearance: When the contract ends you must hand over all records, equipment and credentials and get a No-Dues certificate.
  • Jurisdiction: Any dispute falls under District Kurukshetra courts.
