North-Eastern Hill University is a central university located in Shillong, Meghalaya, established in 1973 to serve the higher education needs of India's North-East region. It is now looking for a Junior Research Fellow to work on the ANRF-sponsored project titled "Integrating Fluvial Morphology and Luminescence Dating to Unravel Late-Quaternary Sediment Dynamics in the Brahmaputra Basin, NE Himalaya" under Principal Investigator Dr. Atul Kumar Singh. The project studies how the Brahmaputra river system and its tributaries have shifted and deposited sediment over thousands of years, using field surveys combined with luminescence dating — a lab technique that estimates when sediment grains were last exposed to sunlight. This is a temporary, project-based position for an initial period of 2 years, extendable based on your progress and co-terminus with the project, meaning the post will end when project funding ends. Selected candidates also get the opportunity to register for a Ph.D. program at NEHU — a strong reason to apply if you want to build a research career in earth sciences while working on a funded, well-supervised project.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: M.Sc. or M.Sc. (Tech) from a recognized University in Geology, Applied Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Remote Sensing, or Geoinformatics.
• Desirable: Prior experience handling drone data will be preferred, since the project involves field-based sediment and terrain mapping.
• NET/GATE: You need a NET or GATE qualification to get the standard ANRF fellowship salary.
• Nationality: Open to Indian nationals.

Age Limit

• You should not be older than 28 years as on the date of the advertisement.
• Age Relaxation: Reserved category candidates get relaxation as per Government of India guidelines.

Salary

• You will get Rs. 37,000 per month plus admissible House Rent Allowance (HRA), as per ANRF norms for NET/GATE qualified JRFs.
• The fellowship is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) for the duration of the project.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on an interview only — there is no separate written test. The interview is conducted in hybrid mode, so you can appear in person at NEHU Shillong or join online if you are unable to travel. The Principal Investigator will assess your academic record, subject knowledge and research aptitude relevant to the project.
