BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (NABI), an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has released a notification for 4 temporary research positions spread across four separate DBT-funded projects at its Knowledge City campus in Mohali, Punjab. NABI works on catalysing the transformation of the Agri-Food sector in India, running research on bio-fortification, designer crops for improved nutrition, and functional foods to counter malnutrition. The posts include a Field Assistant working on scented rice genomics, two Junior Research Fellows working on wheat iron transport and biosensor development, and one Senior Research Fellow working on colored cereal biofortification. All positions are filled purely through walk-in interviews — there is no written exam. Postgraduates and PhD holders in life sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, or engineering are encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Field Assistant (Genomics of Scented Rice Project - GAP-61):

• Qualification: B.Sc or a 3-year Diploma in Engineering & Technology
• Experience: Field and lab work experience is preferred
• Job Responsibility: You will handle extensive field and laboratory work, including data scoring and extraction, for a project on improving scented rice from Assam (Joha) and Manipur
• Duration: Up to 11 June 2029 or till project funds are available

Junior Research Fellow (Wheat Iron Transport Project - GAP-86):

• Qualification: PhD in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Botany, or a related area with CSIR-NET/GATE/Lectureship qualification
• Work Area: Dissecting wheat tissue-type specific iron homeostatic transcriptional responses mediated by a basic helix loop helix protein
• Duration: Initial appointment for one year

Senior Research Fellow (Colored Cereals Project - GAP-73):

• Qualification: Postgraduate degree in Basic Science, or Graduate/PG in a professional course, qualified through NET/GATE/GPAT or a national-level exam conducted by DST, DBT, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, or IISc
• Experience: At least 2 years of research experience as a Junior Research Fellow; research background in plant genetics, plant breeding, plant biochemistry, or cereal crop improvement is preferred
• Job Responsibility: You will work on genetics and breeding for colored wheat, manage day-to-day project activities, design experiments, analyze data, and help prepare manuscripts and progress reports
• Duration: Co-terminus with the project

Junior Research Fellow (Biosensor Project):

• Qualification: Master's degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Microbiology, or Food Technology, or M.Pharm/M.S. Pharm/M.E./M.Tech in a related field, with NET/GATE qualification
• Work Area: Biosensor development and aptamer selection for an aptamer-assisted microcapillary sensor project
• Desired Experience: Aptamer selection experience and basic knowledge of Confocal Microscope and Fluorescence Microscope
• Duration: One year, extendable annually based on your performance

Age Limit

• Field Assistant: Up to 50 years
• Junior Research Fellow (Wheat Project): Up to 35 years
• Senior Research Fellow: Up to 32 years
• Junior Research Fellow (Biosensor Project): Up to 28 years
• Age Relaxation: As per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/PD candidates; women candidates also get relaxation for the two JRF posts.

Salary

• Field Assistant: Rs. 20,000 per month (fixed) + 18% HRA
• Junior Research Fellow: Rs. 37,000 per month + HRA
• Senior Research Fellow: Rs. 42,000 per month + HRA
• Pay is fixed as per Department of Science and Technology (DST) guidelines dated 26 June 2023 and 21 August 2019.

There is no written exam for any of these posts — selection is purely through an interview:

2. Interview: Most posts require a walk-in interview at NABI, Mohali. The Wheat Iron Transport JRF post also allows an online interview.
