About This Job

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India, is hiring one (1) Consultant Grade-2 (Technical) for its Heavy Engineering and Machine Tools (HE&MT) Section in New Delhi. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has released advertisement No. 09/22/2021-Part(1) HE&MT dated 8 May 2026 for engagement of one Consultant Grade-2 (Technical) on a contract basis. The consultant will handle technical examination of policies and projects related to Heavy Engineering, Machine Tools, Advanced/Digital Manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Retired Development Officers, Senior Development Officers, and Industrial Advisors from Technical Divisions of the Ministry are also eligible irrespective of their educational qualifications. Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• BE / B.Tech in a relevant subject, OR
• Master's Degree in a relevant subject

For Retired Officers

• Officers retired as Development Officer / Senior Development Officer / Industrial Advisor or equivalent posts from Technical Divisions of MHI / Departments are eligible irrespective of educational qualifications, subject to DoE guidelines dated 9 December 2020.

Desirable Qualifications

• M.Tech, M.S., additional qualifications, research experience, published papers
• Post-qualification experience in the relevant field
• Good knowledge of MS Office applications

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of experience in PSU / Government / Research Organisation / Industry
• Familiarity with the field of Manufacturing Industry, Capital Goods, Heavy Engineering and Machine Tools
• Preference will be given to candidates with work experience in a Government department relevant to the job description

Age Limit

• Maximum age: below 50 years as on 1 June 2026
• For retired Government servants: Age ceiling is relaxed as per DoE OM dated 9 December 2020. The monthly remuneration will be the fixed amount arrived at by deducting the basic pension from the pay drawn at the time of retirement.
• Engagement will not be given beyond the age of 65 years.

Salary

• Initial monthly remuneration: Rs. 1,45,000 per month
• The remuneration may be enhanced annually based on performance: Up to 5% for significant contribution, up to 10% for exemplary performance in policy making
• Total enhancement shall not exceed 10% in any case, and total remuneration cannot exceed 1.20 times the initial amount over the contract
• TA/DA for official travel: By Air in Economy Class or Rail in AC 2-Tier; Hotel up to Rs. 4,500/day, taxi for AC travel up to 50 km within city, food bills up to Rs. 1,000/day
• The Consultant will not be entitled to allowances like TA/DA, CCA, HRA, CGHS, Medical Reimbursement, residential telephone or staff car for personal use

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is done in two stages:

1. Shortlisting: Eligible applicants will be shortlisted by a Screening Committee comprising the Director / Deputy Secretary (Chairman), Under Secretary (Member) and SO of the concerned Division.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview through online or offline mode by a Selection Committee headed by an Additional Secretary / Joint Secretary.

Medical: Before appointment, you will need to submit a statement of Good Health from a recognised physician. Police Verification will be done by the concerned Division as per MHA instructions.

Duration of Engagement: Initial engagement will be for two years, which may be further extended by one year at a time. Total duration will not exceed 5 years and extension will not be given beyond 65 years of age.

Place of Posting: New Delhi (GPOA-3 Building, Netaji Nagar).

• Conduct technical examination of policies and projects related to Heavy Engineering and Machine Tool Industry
• Work on Advanced and digital manufacturing initiatives and adoption of Industry 4.0 in the capital goods sector
• Handle matters related to Skill Development and Skill Councils under MHI
• Examine various policies, schemes and Cabinet Notes received from other Ministries and Departments of Government of India
• Work on Technical Regulation of machinery and establishment of comprehensive standards for products and components in the capital goods industry
• Prepare reports, briefing notes and presentations for senior officers of the Ministry
• Coordinate with PSUs, industry associations and research organisations on technical matters
