Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) has released Advertisement No. 07/2026 for direct recruitment of 7 Chief Engineers in its Technical Cadre — 5 posts for Chief Engineer (Generation) and 2 posts for Chief Engineer (Civil). This advertisement replaces the earlier Advt. No. 17/2024 for the same posts, which now stands cancelled — candidates who had applied earlier must re-apply if still interested, since old applications will not carry forward automatically. These are senior-level positions best suited for experienced engineers currently working as Executive Engineer or Deputy Chief Engineer in a power generation company, whether in the government sector or with an Independent Power Producer (IPP).

Category-wise reservation:

• Chief Engineer (Generation): SC - 1, ST - 1, NT-C - 1, NT-D - 1, SEBC/EWS - 1, Total - 5
• Chief Engineer (Civil): SC - 1, Open - 1, Total - 2

The number of vacancies and reservation is provisional and may change; such changes will not be separately notified to candidates.

Reservation for Backward Class candidates is governed by the Maharashtra State Public Services Reservation Act, 2001. If you are applying under a reserved category, you must submit a valid Caste Certificate and Caste Validity Certificate from a competent authority along with your application. SC and ST candidates are exempted from submitting a Non-Creamy Layer Certificate, but VJ-A/NT-B/NT-C/NT-D/SBC/OBC candidates must submit a current-year Non-Creamy Layer Certificate. Once you choose the Open or reserved category in your application, you will not be allowed to change it at any later stage.

Who Can Apply?

For Chief Engineer (Generation):

• Qualification: You need a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Instrumentation / Electronics & Telecommunication / Power Engineering (or Electrical & Power Engineering & Technology) from a recognized university.
• Experience: You must have 15 years of experience in a Power Generation Company (Central, State, or Independent Power Producer), including at least 5 years in Power Generation posts of Executive Engineer level and above, of which 2 years must be as Deputy Chief Engineer (or alternatively, 3 years as Deputy Chief Engineer).

For Chief Engineer (Civil):

• Qualification: You need a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering / Technology from a recognized university.
• Experience: You must have a total of 15 years of relevant civil engineering experience.

Departmental (MAHAGENCO) candidates with Computer or Production Engineering qualifications are also eligible for direct recruitment, and their previous work experience considered at entry level in MAHAGENCO will be counted for this recruitment as well.

Age Limit

• You should be up to 50 years old as on 20 August 2026 (up to 57 years if you are an existing MAHAGENCO employee).
• Age Relaxation: Backward Category and EWS candidates get a 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit. Candidates applying under the Open category will follow the standard Open category age limit.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 1,40,655 to Rs. 2,72,215 per month under Pay Group I.
• You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per MAHAGENCO rules, in line with pay packages offered to senior technical officers in Maharashtra's power sector.

Application Fee

• Open / General category: Rs. 944 (Rs. 800 + Rs. 144 GST)
• Reserved category (SC/ST/NT/SEBC) & EWS: Rs. 708 (Rs. 600 + Rs. 108 GST)
• Payment mode: Scan the QR code given in the application form and pay online. Cash, cheque, and demand drafts are not accepted.
• Fees once paid are non-refundable and will not be adjusted against any other recruitment. Applications with insufficient fee payment will be treated as ineligible.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Assessment Centre Test: Includes an In-Basket Exercise, Group Discussion, Case Study/Problem Solving, and a Presentation Skill test. Candidates who appear eligible on age and educational criteria will be called for this test without prior verification of other eligibility conditions.
2. Personal Interview: Held at the examination centre, at your own cost.
3. Document Verification: You must bring all original certificates for verification if shortlisted or selected; failure to produce the required originals can lead to disqualification at any stage.

The recruitment process is tentatively planned for September 2026.
