LBSH Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital (LBSH), run by the Government of NCT of Delhi at Khichripur in East Delhi, is filling Senior Resident posts on an ad-hoc basis through a single walk-in interview. The openings cover five clinical departments, from Obstetrics and Gynaecology to Anaesthesia, so specialists who have just finished their PG and want hands-on hospital work in Delhi have a quick route in. There is no written test — you are picked on the interview alone.

The engagement follows the Government of India Residency Scheme and the Delhi Health and Family Welfare Department's extended residency rules, so you get a 7th CPC pay-matrix salary with regular allowances even though the post is ad-hoc.

Posts and Disciplines

• Obstetrics and Gynaecology: the largest group of openings, split across the unreserved, OBC and SC categories.
• Paediatrics: one opening reserved for an OBC (Delhi) candidate.
• Medicine: one unreserved opening in the general medicine department.
• Surgery: one opening reserved for an SC candidate.
• Anaesthesia: one opening reserved for an SC candidate.

The hospital says the number of openings in each department may change based on the actual vacancy position on the interview day. If no SC, ST, OBC or EWS candidate turns up for a reserved slot, it can go to a suitable candidate from another category.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Each spell is 44 days. It can be renewed for another 44 days after a one-day break, on your written request recommended by your department in-charge, until a regular doctor joins. The total cap is 3 years, counting any earlier senior residency (ad-hoc or regular) at any NMC-recognised teaching or non-teaching institution.
• Fallback eligibility: if no candidate with a PG degree, DNB, diploma or post-doctoral degree in the specialty turns up, an MBBS doctor with two years' experience in the same specialty can be considered.
• Result timing: your PG course must be complete and the result declared before the interview day.
• DMC registration: you need Delhi Medical Council registration for the specialty, or the DMC acknowledgement.
• Delhi-only certificates: OBC (with valid non-creamy layer) and EWS certificates are accepted only if issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi before the interview date. A fake caste certificate leads to immediate termination.
• No private practice: you must give an undertaking that you are not working at any other government or private health facility and will not do so during your tenure.
• Joining: you get at most 7 days from the result to join, subject to a medical fitness check by the LBSH Staff Physician. Bring an NOC if you are currently employed.
• Notice period: either side can end the ad-hoc appointment with seven days' notice.
• Posting: you can be deployed anywhere in patient care when an emergency or public interest needs it.
• Rank list: stays valid for one month from the result or until the next advertisement for the same post, whichever comes first.
• Travel: no TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

Application Submission Notes

This is a walk-in, so there is no online form. Report to the Administration Branch, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Khichripur, Delhi 110091 between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on the interview day with the filled application in the prescribed format, your original certificates, a set of self-attested photocopies and two passport-size photographs. Applications are not accepted after 11:00 AM. Results and later updates appear on the Delhi Health and Family Welfare Department website, so keep checking it.
