Kerala PSC is hiring a Station Officer (Trainee) in the Fire and Rescue Services Department through direct recruitment. If you are a Science graduate (preferably in Chemistry) and can clear the physical tests, you can apply online. The pay scale is Rs. 43,400 to Rs. 91,200. The last date to apply is 5 August 2026. The Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) has published notification Category No. 047/2026 in the Extra Ordinary Gazette dated 30 June 2026 for the post of Station Officer (Trainee) in the Fire and Rescue Services Department. This is a uniformed field post that needs physical fitness and a science background. Selected candidates undergo training and are placed on a 2-year probation with a 7-year service bond.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Graduation in Science from a recognised University, preferably in Chemistry.
• Gender: Only male candidates are eligible. Female and Differently Abled candidates are not eligible for this post.
• Preferential qualification: A good record in Sports and Games (International/National/Interzonal/Inter-state or State events) is given preference.

Age Limit

• You should be between 20 and 35 years old (born between 02.01.1991 and 01.01.2006, both dates included).
• Age Relaxation: OBC and SC/ST candidates get usual age relaxation as per rules.
• For Clerks of the Fire & Rescue Department applying for Station Officer by direct recruitment, the upper age limit is 43 years.

Salary

• Pay scale: Rs. 43,400 to Rs. 91,200 per month.
• You will also get DA and other allowances as per Kerala Government rules.

Physical Standards

Minimum Physical Measurements

• Height (without footwear): 165 cm (General) / 160 cm (SC/ST)
• Weight: 50 kg (General) / 48 kg (SC/ST)
• Chest: 81 cm (General) / 76 cm (SC/ST)
• Chest Expansion: 5 cm

Visual Standards (without glasses)

• Distant Vision: 6/6 in both eyes
• Near Vision: 0.5 Snellen in both eyes
• Full field of vision in each eye
• Colour blindness, squint or any morbid eye condition is a disqualification.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

You must qualify in at least 5 out of 8 items:

• 100 Metres race: 14 seconds
• High Jump: 132.20 cm
• Long Jump: 457.20 cm
• Putting the Shot (7264 gms): 609.60 cm
• Throwing the cricket ball: 6096 cm
• Rope Climbing (hands only): 365.80 cm
• Pull Up / Chinning: 8 times
• 1500 Metres race: 5 minutes 44 seconds

Selection Process

Selection is done through a Ranked List published by the Commission. The stages are:

1. Physical Measurement: Taken before the physical efficiency test. If you do not meet the physical standards, you cannot take the PET.
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): You must qualify in at least 5 of the 8 items listed above.
3. Medical Examination: You must produce a medical certificate from a Medical Officer not below the rank of a Civil Surgeon confirming your fitness and visual standards.
4. Weightage marks: NCC 'A'/'B'/'C' certificate holders get 2%/3%/5% extra marks. Sports persons and Student Police Cadet (SPC) certificate holders also get extra weightage.

If a written / OMR / online test is held as part of this selection, the exam schedule and syllabus will be notified separately by the Commission.
