The Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) has released Category No. 51/2026 under the extra-ordinary gazette dated 30 June 2026 for the post of Boat Syrang in the Kerala State Water Transport Department. A Syrang is the person who operates and steers a boat, so this job needs a valid boat licence and hands-on experience on the water. 4% of the vacancies are reserved for Differently Abled candidates. Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• You must have passed SSLC (10th Class) or an equivalent qualification.
• You must hold a valid Syrang License issued by an authority under the Kerala Inland Vessels Rules, 2010 or a Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) licence.

Other Requirements

• Rule 10(a)(ii) of Part II of the KS&SSR applies to this post.
• If you hold an equivalent or higher qualification, you must produce the relevant Government Order at the time of verification.
• 4% of the vacancies are reserved for Differently Abled candidates as per GO(P) No.13/2024/SJD.

Age Limit

• You should be between 18 and 40 years old.
• Only candidates born between 2 January 1986 and 1 January 2008 (both dates included) can apply.
• Age Relaxation: SC, ST and Other Backward Communities get the usual age relaxation as per Kerala PSC rules.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 26,500 to Rs. 60,700 per month.
• You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Kerala Government rules.
• You will be on probation for 2 years within a continuous period of 3 years.

Selection Process

Selection is done by Kerala PSC through the ranked list system:

1. Written / OMR / Online Test: If a test is held, you must confirm through your One Time Registration profile and then download the admission ticket. The exam calendar will announce the dates.
2. Document Verification: You must produce original certificates for your SSLC, Syrang licence, age, community, etc. when called.
3. Ranked List: Kerala PSC prepares a ranked list valid for a minimum of one year and up to three years, and advises candidates for appointment against the vacancies.

Note: If your caste in the application differs from your SSLC book, you must produce a Non Creamy Layer Certificate or Community Certificate along with a Gazette Notification at verification.

2. Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) if you have not done it already.
3. Log in to your profile with your User-ID and password.
4. Find the notification for Boat Syrang (Cat. No. 51/2026) and click Apply Now.
5. Upload your photo (taken within the last 6 months) with your name and date printed on it.
6. Submit the form and keep a printout or soft copy for your record.
