Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) Research Associate Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has released Advertisement No. CPMU/INST/63/26-27 for a temporary Research Associate position. You will work under the guidance of Prof. Bivas Saha in the CPMU & ICMS Unit at JNCASR, Jakkur, Bengaluru — a campus known for its strong publication record and collaborative research culture. Candidates with strong expertise in first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) calculations are preferred for this computational materials research role. This is a good fit for early-career researchers who want to work on electronic-structure, phonon, and magnetization calculations.

JNCASR is a Deemed-to-be-University and one of India's premier scientific research institutions, known for interdisciplinary research across chemistry, physics, materials science, and biology. The CPMU & ICMS Unit focuses on computational and theoretical materials science, making this Research Associate role a strong stepping stone for candidates aiming for an academic or research career in condensed matter physics or materials engineering.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification:

  • Ph.D. / MD / MS / MDS or an equivalent degree
  • OR three years of research, teaching, design, and development experience after M.V.Sc / M.Pharm / M.E / M.Tech, with at least one research paper published in a Science Citation Index (SCI) journal

Desirable Qualification:

  • Strong expertise in first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) calculations, including electronic-structure analysis, phonon and magnetization calculations
  • Experience with advanced computational workflows such as EPW and related techniques

If you already have hands-on experience with DFT software packages and electron-phonon coupling calculations, you will have a strong advantage during the screening process. Candidates transitioning from a Master's degree with published research are also encouraged to apply, provided they meet the minimum experience and publication requirement.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit for this post is 35 years.

This age limit is standard for Research Associate positions at central government research institutions and generally applies as on the date of the interview or joining, as specified in the official advertisement.

Salary

  • You will get a monthly remuneration of Rs. 47,000, Rs. 49,000, or Rs. 54,000, fixed based on your experience.
  • You will also get House Rent Allowance (HRA) at 24% of your basic pay.

This puts your total monthly compensation, including HRA, well above the base pay depending on which of the three remuneration levels you are placed in. The final level assigned to you depends on your qualifications and years of relevant research experience.

Selection Process

The selection is done in the following stages:

  1. Screening of Application: Your submitted template, testimonials, and resume will be reviewed by the selection committee.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an online interview. No TA/DA will be paid if you attend in person.

Since this is a research position and not a written-exam-based recruitment, your academic record, publications, and relevant research experience carry the most weight in the selection process. Make sure your resume clearly highlights your computational research background.

How to Apply

  1. Download the application Template available on the JNCASR website.
  2. Fill in the template with your personal, educational, and experience details.
  3. Attach scanned copies of your original testimonials — educational qualification, age proof, experience certificates, and publications.
  4. Prepare a brief resume, and note down your Skype ID, email address, and mobile number — these are needed since shortlisted candidates may be interviewed online.
  5. If you are currently employed or pursuing a Ph.D., attach a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer or Ph.D. supervisor.
  6. Email all the documents to bsaha@jncasr.ac.in before the deadline.

Since this is an email-based application, there is no online portal or application fee involved. Double-check that all attachments are legible scans before sending, as incomplete applications may not be considered for screening.

Important Dates

  • Notification Date: 28 July 2026
  • Last Date to Apply: 10 August 2026

With only 1 position open, competition is expected to be strong among qualified researchers. If you meet the essential qualification and have relevant computational research experience, do not wait until the last day to send your application to bsaha@jncasr.ac.in.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) calculations for assigned research problems
  • Perform electronic-structure, phonon, and magnetization analysis
  • Run and analyze computational workflows using tools such as EPW
  • Document research findings and prepare data for publication
  • Assist in writing research papers and reports under the guidance of the project lead
  • Collaborate with other researchers and students in the CPMU & ICMS Unit
  • Maintain accurate records of simulations and results
