Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has released the July 2026 recruitment notice for various Group A non-faculty posts. This single notification covers posts at JIPMER Puducherry, Karaikal and Yanam. The biggest share is for General Duty Medical Officer posts, while Specialist Grade II posts are available in seven medical specialties.
The selection may be through a Computer Based Test and/or personal interview. JIPMER has also stated that if the number of applications is limited, it may conduct selection directly through interview without a written exam. Who Can Apply?
Specialist Grade II (Junior Scale)
- Medical qualification: You need a recognised MBBS qualification under the Indian Medical Council Act.
- PG qualification: You need the relevant MD, MS or DM qualification for the specialty.
- Experience: Most MD/MS specialties need 3 years of experience after the qualifying PG degree. DM specialties need 1 year of experience for two-year or five-year courses, while no experience is needed for three-year or six-year DM courses.
General Duty Medical Officer
- Medical qualification: You need an MBBS or equivalent medical qualification recognised under the Indian Medical Council Act.
- Experience: You need 3 years of experience after completing the one-year compulsory internship.
Child Psychologist
- Qualification: You need M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institute or university.
- Experience: You need at least 2 years of experience in Child Adolescent Mental Health in a recognised institute or hospital.
- Registration: You must have valid registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India in the Central Rehabilitation Register.
Age Limit
- Specialist Grade II: Up to 40 years.
- General Duty Medical Officer: Up to 35 years.
- Child Psychologist: Up to 35 years.
- Age reference date: Age and experience are counted as on 01 July 2026, the closing date of online registration.
- Age relaxation: SC/ST get 5 years, OBC get 3 years, PWBD get 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC and 15 years for SC/ST. Central Government civilian employees can get relaxation as per category rules.
Salary
- Specialist Grade II: Pay of Rs. 67,700 in Level-11 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix plus NPA.
- General Duty Medical Officer: Pay of Rs. 56,100 in Level-10 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix plus NPA.
- Child Psychologist: Pay of Rs. 56,100 in Level-10 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
- Allowances: Other allowances will be as per JIPMER and Government of India rules for the post.

- OBC: Rs. 1,500 plus transaction charges
- SC / ST: Rs. 1,200 plus transaction charges

Selection Process
JIPMER may use a Computer Based Test, personal interview or both, depending on the number of applications. If CBT is conducted, candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on the notified ratio.
- Computer Based Test: Online exam in English language only. Minimum qualifying marks are 50% for UR/EWS, 45% for UR/EWS-PWBD and 40% for SC/ST/OBC.
- Interview Shortlisting: For 1-2 posts, 5 times the number of posts may be called; for 3-4 posts, 4 times; for 5 or more posts, 3 times.
- Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates must appear for interview. JIPMER may also use direct interview if applications are limited.
- Document Verification: Original certificates for age, qualification, experience, category and registration will be checked before final selection.
- Final Merit: If both CBT and interview are used, CBT carries 80% weightage and interview carries 20%. If interview alone is used, interview performance carries 100% weightage.

Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care to patients in the assigned JIPMER campus or specialty
- Examine patients, diagnose conditions and plan treatment as per hospital protocols
- Manage outpatient, inpatient and emergency duties when posted
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff and other hospital departments
- Maintain patient records, case notes and required clinical documentation
- Support public health, specialty care or mental health services based on the post
- Attend duty rosters, reviews and administrative requirements of the department
