This is a state-specific recruitment — you must choose and apply for only one state (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra or Gujarat), and you need to be proficient in that state's local language. Selected candidates will be posted within their chosen state for the first 12 years of service or until their promotion to SMGS-IV, whichever is earlier. Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: A graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of settling permanently in India.
  • Local Language: You must be able to read, write and speak the local language of the state you apply for. If you haven't studied it in 10th or 12th standard, you will need to clear a Language Proficiency Test.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 20 and 30 years old as on 1 August 2026 (born between 2 August 1996 and 1 August 2006).
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates get 3 years, PwBD candidates get 10 years, and persons affected by the 1984 riots get 5 years.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Get 5 years' relaxation if they completed at least 5 years of military service.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a Basic Pay of Rs. 48,480 per month, rising to Rs. 85,920 in the JMGS-I (Scale I) pay scale.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, CCA and other allowances as per Bank rules.
  • You will be on probation for 2 years from your date of joining.
  • You need to execute a bond of Rs. 2,00,000 for a minimum service period of 3 years.
  • One advance increment may be given for each completed year of prior service as an Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, up to a maximum of 2 increments, if your previous job profile matches that of a Scale-I Generalist Officer.

  • SC / ST / PwBD: Rs. 175 (intimation charges only, inclusive of GST)
  • General / EWS / OBC: Rs. 850 (inclusive of GST)
  • The fee is non-refundable once paid, even if you don't complete your application.

Selection Process

IOB will select candidates in 3 stages:

  1. Online Examination: 140 objective questions for 200 marks in 3 hours, covering Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, Data Analysis and Interpretation, and English Knowledge. There is a penalty of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  2. Language Proficiency Test (LPT): Required only if you have not studied the local language of your chosen state in 10th or 12th standard.
  3. Personal Interview: Carries 100 marks. You need at least 45% marks (reserved) or 50% (unreserved) to qualify.

The final merit is based on 80% weightage to the Online Exam and 20% weightage to the Interview. You need a minimum aggregate of 30% (reserved) or 35% (unreserved) to be selected.

  • Handle day-to-day banking operations at the branch, including customer service and account management
  • Process loan applications, deposits and other banking transactions
  • Verify documents and KYC details of customers
  • Cross-sell bank products such as insurance, mutual funds and deposit schemes
  • Maintain accuracy and compliance in daily cash and ledger operations
  • Assist in branch administration, audit and regulatory compliance
  • Build relationships with local customers using your knowledge of the local language and market
  • Report to senior bank officials on branch performance and targets

Exam Pattern
