Indian Army SSC (Tech) 68 Men and SSCW (Tech) 39 Women Recruitment 2026 - 381 Posts

The Indian Army has released a combined notification for the 68th Short Service Commission (Technical) entry for Men (350 posts) and the 39th Short Service Commission Women (Technical) entry (31 posts), for the course starting in April 2027. This is one of the most sought-after officer entries because there is no written test - engineering graduates and final-year students are shortlisted on academic merit and go straight to the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. After about 49 weeks of pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy, cadets are commissioned as Lieutenants. Widows of Defence personnel who died in service are also eligible to apply.

Vacancy Breakdown

  • SSC (Tech) 68th - Men: 350 posts
  • SSCW (Tech) 39th - Women: 31 posts

Posts are spread across engineering streams such as Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and several allied engineering disciplines. You can apply only for the stream that matches your engineering degree - any mismatch between your degree and the stream filled in the form leads to rejection.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: A B.E. / B.Tech degree in a notified engineering stream. Final-year students can also apply, but they must produce proof of passing and all mark sheets by the date given in the notification.
  • Gender & Marital Status: Unmarried men (for SSC Tech 68) and unmarried women (for SSCW Tech 39).
  • Defence Widows: Widows of Defence personnel who died in harness may also apply, as per the conditions in the notification.
  • Nationality: You must be a citizen of India, or meet the other nationality conditions listed in the notification.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 20 and 27 years old for the April 2027 course. Check the exact date-of-birth window in the official notification before applying.

Salary

  • During training at the academy, you get a fixed stipend of Rs. 56,100 per month.
  • After commissioning as a Lieutenant, your pay is in Level 10 (Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month), plus Military Service Pay of Rs. 15,500 and other allowances.
  • This works out to a cost to company (CTC) of roughly Rs. 17-18 lakh per year, along with free medical cover and other defence benefits.
  • The Short Service Commission runs for 10 years, extendable by another 4 years, and you can apply for a Permanent Commission in your 10th year based on merit and vacancies.

Physical Standards

Before joining the academy, you should be able to meet the minimum physical standards. The benchmarks for male officer cadets are:

  • 2.4 km run in 10 minutes 30 seconds
  • 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups and 30 sit-ups
  • Basic swimming knowledge

Female candidates have separate physical standards as given in the official notification.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam. Selection is done in these stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on the cut-off percentage of marks in their engineering degree, stream-wise.
  2. SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend a 5-day, two-stage Services Selection Board (SSB) interview at an allotted centre (Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar). Those who clear Stage 1 continue to Stage 2 on the same day.
  3. Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a medical examination.
  4. Merit List & Joining: A final merit list is drawn stream-wise, and selected candidates get a joining letter for training at the Officers Training Academy.
