Indian Army Short Service Commission (JAG) 125th Course Recruitment 2026 - 10 Posts

The Indian Army has opened applications for the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Entry Scheme, 125th Course, which starts training in April 2027. This is a Short Service Commission open to unmarried male and female law graduates who want to serve as legal officers in the Army. Salary

  • During the 49-week training at the Officer Training Academy, Chennai, you get a stipend of Rs. 56,100 per month.
  • After commissioning, you join as a Lieutenant at Level 10 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, with pay ranging from Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month.
  • You also get Military Service Pay of Rs. 15,500 per month, plus Dearness Allowance, Field Area Allowance and other benefits as applicable.
  • Pay increases with promotion — Captain (Level 10B): Rs. 61,300 to Rs. 1,93,900, and Major (Level 11): Rs. 69,400 to Rs. 2,07,200.

Selection Process

Selection for the JAG 125th Course happens in 4 stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Based on your CLAT PG 2026 score — there is no separate written exam.
  2. SSB Interview: A 5-day Services Selection Board interview, tentatively in November/December 2026. It has two stages, and only candidates who clear Stage I move to Stage II.
  3. Medical Examination: As per Indian Army medical standards listed on joinindianarmy.nic.in.
  4. Merit List and Joining Letter: Final selection is based on your SSB and medical performance, followed by the offer of a joining letter.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to Army units on military law, court martial procedures and disciplinary matters
  • Prosecute or defend cases in General Court Martial and Summary Court Martial proceedings
  • Draft legal opinions on service and administrative matters for Army units
  • Help commanding officers interpret the Army Act, rules and regulations
  • Represent the Army in legal proceedings before Armed Forces Tribunals
  • Review contracts, agreements and administrative orders for legal compliance
  • Conduct legal training sessions for troops and officers on military law
