Who Can Apply
Before you apply, make sure you meet all three of these conditions. All three are required — not just one or two.
- Nationality: Citizen of India (women only)
- Marital Status: Unmarried women only. You must remain unmarried throughout the training period at OTA Chennai.
- Education: You must hold a graduation degree from a recognized university in any discipline.
- NCC Certificate: You must have an NCC C Certificate with a minimum B grade. This is a hard requirement — without it, your application will be rejected.
- Physical Fitness: You must be medically fit as per Indian Army standards. Medical fitness is checked after SSB Interview.
Age Limit
Your age must be between 19 and 25 years as on 01 July 2026. This means you must have been born between 02 July 2001 and 01 July 2007 (both dates inclusive).
| Category | Age Relaxation | Maximum Age |
|---|---|---|
| Ward of Battle Casualty (1 reserved post) | As per Army rules | As per official notification |
Note: Standard SC/ST/OBC age relaxations do not apply to Army officer entry posts. Check the official notification PDF for any specific relaxations applicable to the Ward of Battle Casualty category.
Total Vacancies
There are 6 vacancies in total for the 124th SSC NCC Special Entry course for women:
| Category | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| General NCC Women | 5 |
| Ward of Battle Casualty | 1 |
| Total | 6 |
The number of vacancies is small, which means competition will be high. Your NCC grade and graduation percentage will play a key role in getting shortlisted for the SSB Interview.
Salary Details
Here's the important part — the pay and benefits you get as an Indian Army Officer are significantly better than most central government jobs at the same qualification level.
| Component | Amount |
|---|---|
| Basic Pay (Level 10 — Lieutenant) | Rs. 56,100 - 1,77,500/month |
| Military Service Pay (MSP) | Rs. 15,500/month (extra, over and above basic) |
| DA (Dearness Allowance) | As per 7th Pay Commission rates |
| HRA / Accommodation | Free army accommodation provided in most postings, or HRA as applicable |
| TA (Transport Allowance) | As per posting location and rank |
| Uniform Allowance | Rs. 20,000/year |
| Medical Benefits | Free medical care for self and family (ECHS coverage) |
| AGIF Life Insurance | Rs. 1.25 crore coverage |
| Estimated CTC | ~Rs. 17-18 lakh per annum |
During the 49-week training at Officer Training Academy (OTA) Chennai, you will receive a stipend of Rs. 56,100 per month. After commissioning as a Lieutenant, your pay starts at the Level 10 pay matrix entry point. Your actual take-home salary will depend on your posting location, accommodation status, and applicable allowances — but most new officers take home around Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 per month after all allowances and before deductions.
Selection Process
There is no written exam for this entry. The selection happens in three stages:
- Application Shortlisting: Applications are screened based on your NCC C Certificate grade and your graduation percentage. Only shortlisted candidates are called for the SSB Interview.
- SSB Interview (5 days): This is the most important stage. The Services Selection Board (SSB) assesses your Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR), psychological profile, group tasks, and personal interview over five consecutive days. SSB interviews are held at designated SSB centres across India. If you clear the SSB, you will be given a recommendation.
- Medical Examination: Recommended candidates undergo a detailed medical examination at a designated Military Hospital. You must meet Army medical fitness standards.
- Merit List: A final merit list is prepared based on your SSB score and medical fitness. Allocation of vacancies is done from this merit list.
Since there is no written exam, there are no Preparation Tips for this entry. Focus your energy on preparing for the SSB Interview — it is the most critical and challenging part of the process.

Career Growth After Joining
This is a Short Service Commission (SSC) — not a Permanent Commission from day one. Here is what the career path looks like:
- Initial Tenure: You are commissioned as a Lieutenant for an initial period of 10 years. This can be extended by up to 4 more years, for a total of 14 years of service.
- Permanent Commission Option: After completing 10 years of service, you have the option to apply for Permanent Commission in the Indian Army. Selection for PC is based on performance, vacancies, and Army requirements. If granted PC, you continue to serve till superannuation.
- Rank Progression: As a commissioned officer, you start as a Lieutenant and progress through Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, and beyond based on years of service and performance. Promotions at early ranks are largely time-based.
- Gratuity and Post-Service Benefits: On completion of SSC tenure (if PC is not granted), you are entitled to gratuity and resettlement benefits. The Indian Army also provides strong post-service career support.
A career as an Indian Army officer gives you leadership experience, national recognition, and a lifestyle that very few other careers can match.
