IIT Hyderabad Postdoctoral Fellow CLEANZ-CoE 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) is hiring a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow for modelling combustion and multiphase flow under the CLEANZ Centre of Excellence. The work is firmly computational: the fellow will build high-fidelity models for sprays and combustion, develop OpenFOAM-based solvers, and connect coal-combustion kinetics with Coal Water Slurry simulations. This is an on-site research position at the IIT Hyderabad campus, suited to someone who wants to turn advanced CFD methods into working solver capability.
The project combines multiphase CFD solver development, turbulent combustion modelling, and heat and mass transfer in porous media. It is not limited to running standard software workflows. You will be expected to modify or create solver components, test coupled modelling approaches and produce research outputs that can be measured through intellectual property, publications and review performance.
The notice places strong weight on evidence of hands-on CFD work in your publication record. Experience with both Ansys Fluent and OpenFOAM should be visible in journal papers, and the ability to develop customised solvers with OpenFOAM libraries is central to the assignment. Work on Lagrangian particle tracking, thermal-management heat and mass transfer, VOF variants, or adsorption and desorption in porous media would fit particularly well with the team's planned research.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The appointment starts for one year and may be extended after a performance review. An extension is not automatic.
- Workplace: The position is on-site within the IIT Hyderabad campus, so remote engagement is not offered.
- Accommodation: CLEANZ does not provide accommodation. Institute accommodation may be considered only if available, and the applicable arrangement excludes the HRA component under institute rules.
- Performance: Reviews will consider intellectual property generated, papers published, the developed CFD solver and overall project performance.
- Shortlisting: Academic record, eligibility and relevant experience will be used to shortlist applicants. Meeting the minimum conditions does not guarantee an interview call.
- Suitable-candidate clause: IIT Hyderabad may leave the role vacant and issue a fresh notice with an extended window if the committee does not find a suitable applicant.

Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Ph.D. awarded or provisional degree certificate, with B.Tech./M.Tech equivalent in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, and at least 3 Scopus-indexed journal publications
Preferred Qualification
Postdoctoral experience and CFD modelling exposure in Lagrangian particle tracking, turbulent heat and mass transfer, VOF models, or adsorption/desorption in porous media
