IITGN JRF Biological Sciences Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow for a sponsored research project in its Department of Biological Sciences and Engineering. The project is called "DNA nanotechnology for biological systems programming" and is led by Prof. Dhiraj Bhatia. The opening is handled by the institute's Research and Development Office, so this is a project fellowship, not a regular staff or faculty post.

The lab uses DNA nanostructures to program cells and biological systems. If you have an M.Sc. in Life Sciences and some hands-on time with cell biology, microscopy or DNA nanotechnology, your profile is the one the lab says it prefers. You still need to have cleared a national test such as CSIR-UGC NET or GATE, or a national-level selection run by a central agency, to fit the fellowship rules.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The appointment runs for six months or until the project closes, whichever comes first.
• Rules applied: Eligibility follows the funding agency's norms, not IITGN's own institute norms.
• NET/GATE matters for pay: Only GATE/NET or equivalent GoI-qualified candidates get the higher fellowship with HRA; everyone else gets a lower fixed amount with no HRA.
• HRA: House rent allowance is paid only as per institute norms, so check whether it applies to you before you count on it.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a call. IITGN may use a higher cut-off and can decide not to fill the post in this round.
