IIT Roorkee JRF & Project Associate Recruitment 2026 — 3 Posts
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has invited applications for 3 project positions under a DST-funded research project titled 'Development of an Integrated Intelligent Disaster Management System for Mountain Communities in India'. The project is led by Prof. Ram Sateesh Pasupuleti in the Department of Architecture and Planning. This is a collaborative research project with IIT Patna, NIT Surathkal, Amrita University and UPES Dehradun, funded by the Department of Science and Technology under the Technology Development Program. Selected candidates may also get an opportunity for PhD admission at IIT Roorkee.
Vacancy Details
- Junior Research Fellow (JRF): 1 post — Research component, scientific publications
- Project Associate-I: 1 post — Fieldwork interface, software development support
- Project Assistant: 1 post — Overall project support including administrative and field work
Who Can Apply?
For Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
- Qualification: Post Graduate degree in Architecture, Conservation, Landscape or any Spatial Information Technology related field
- Additional requirement: Must have qualified CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship) or GATE, or a national level exam conducted by central government departments/agencies
For Project Associate-I
- Qualification (Option 1): Post Graduate degree in Architecture, Conservation, Landscape or any Spatial Information Technology related field
- Qualification (Option 2): B.Tech (related to Software Development) or B.Arch / B.Planning from a recognized university
- Desirable: Knowledge and experience of software applications and development
For Project Assistant
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree or 3-year Diploma in Engineering and Technology
- Desirable: Experience in fieldwork in mountain environments, handling drone surveys, and CyARK certified training
Salary
- Junior Research Fellow: Rs 37,000 per month + 10% HRA
- Project Associate-I (with NET/GATE): Rs 31,000 per month + 10% HRA
- Project Associate-I (without NET/GATE): Rs 25,000 per month + HRA
- Project Assistant: Rs 20,000 per month
Project duration is 3 years, subject to funding availability.
Selection Process

- Document Verification: Bring original degree certificates and experience certificates for verification at the interview
Preference will be given to SC/ST candidates with equal qualifications and experience. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

Responsibilities
- Conduct intensive field work in villages of Uttarakhand for data collection on disaster management
- Coordinate with community stakeholders, disaster and development agencies
- Collect primary and secondary data on indigenous knowledge and adaptive capacities of mountain communities
- Work on AI/ML frameworks for mapping traditional knowledge into an integrated disaster management system
- Assist in software development for the intelligent responsive system
- Prepare scientific publications and research documentation
- Handle drone surveys and spatial information system data
- Support administrative tasks and coordinate with partnering institutions (IIT Patna, NIT Surathkal, Amrita University, UPES Dehradun)
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree or 3-year Diploma in Engineering and Technology (for Project Assistant); Post Graduate degree in Architecture/Conservation/Landscape/Spatial IT (for JRF and PA-I)
Preferred Qualification
CSIR-UGC NET/GATE for JRF; Software development experience for PA-I; Drone surveys and CyARK training for Project Assistant
