GBPNIHE Senior Project Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview
G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE) is hiring a Senior Project Fellow for an in-house project at Kosi-Katarmal, Almora, Uttarakhand. The appointment belongs to the institute's project work on socio-ecological security and a sustainable bioeconomy in the Indian Himalayan Region.
The project's central theme is community-driven blockchain governance. It brings a digital governance approach into a setting involving village communities, public departments and other stakeholders. You would join a project that connects these community relationships with the wider environmental and bioeconomy focus described in the notice.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project appointment: Your engagement is temporary and linked to the project. The institute can end the engagement at any time without giving a reason.
- Joining: If selected, you should be ready to join immediately. Keep this expectation in mind if you need to finish another assignment before moving.
- Posting: Although the notice identifies a project base, you may be posted anywhere in India. The named centre does not remove this wider posting condition.
- Travel costs: The institute will not pay travel or daily allowance for attending the interview. You will need to meet those costs yourself if you attend in person.

Responsibilities
- Conduct field and social surveys for the project
- Collect and organise project data
- Analyse research data using statistical methods
- Write scientific reports and prepare presentations
- Prepare research papers for publication
- Organise training and capacity-building programmes
- Develop a mobile application for the project
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
First-class master degree in Remote Sensing and GIS, Geo-informatics, Environmental Science, Forestry, Social Science, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Application, Artificial Intelligence or Data Science from a recognised university, with two years of research experience in a reputed institution or organisation, OR a PhD in one of these subjects. A consistently good academic record is required.
Preferred Qualification
Research experience in data analytics and blockchain technology, QR code creation, smart contracts, work with village communities and line departments or stakeholders, extensive fieldwork, data collection and statistical analysis is preferred.
Required Skills
