IIT Patna Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a sponsored research project in its Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The project is titled "Surface crack repair of engineering materials through friction surfacing" and is funded by the Aeronautics Research and Development Board (AR&DB), so the work feeds into repair methods for aerospace-grade parts.

This is a time-bound project position, not a regular institute post. You will work under Dr. Devinder Yadav, the investigator, at the IIT Patna campus in Bihta, Patna. The fellowship rises in the third year of the project, which makes the full term attractive if you plan to stay on.

The post suits engineering graduates and postgraduates in Metallurgy, Materials or Mechanical Engineering, and M.Sc holders in Physics, Chemistry, Solid State Physics or Ceramics. If you have worked on friction stir welding or processing, nickel-based superalloys or mechanical testing, or you hold a GATE score, the notice says you will get preference.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The assignment runs for three years and is tied to the research project.
• Age cut-off depends on your degree: the upper limit is lower for B.Tech/B.E. holders than for M.Tech/M.E./M.Sc holders, so check which limit applies to you.
• Marks: Your qualifying degree needs a CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
• Interview mode: The interview is online, but you must keep the original certificates, mark-sheets and degrees ready along with an updated resume.
• Travel: No TA/DA is paid for appearing in the interview.
