IIT Madras Project Technical Support I Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), through its Centre for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), is hiring Project Technical Support I staff for the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering. The posts are part of the ICMR-funded project “Urine-based Non-invasive Tuberculosis Screening Biosensor – Scaling and Testing for Deployment”, coordinated by Prof. Raghavendra Sai V V.

This is an entry-level lab role: you will give day-to-day hands-on help with making biosensor probes and testing prototype devices, working under the project's research scientists and senior technical staff. It suits DMLT or diploma holders and science graduates who already have some lab experience and want to work on a real diagnostic device at a top institute. It is a contract engagement for one year at first, extendable based on your performance. You will be expected to follow lab safety, quality-control and standard operating procedures at all times.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract only: The post is purely contractual; finishing the contract gives you no claim to extension, regularisation or a permanent job at the institute.
• Tenure: One year to begin with, extended only on the strength of your performance.
• Citizenship: You must be an Indian citizen. Subjects of Nepal and people who migrated from Pakistan to settle permanently in India can also apply, but they need an eligibility certificate from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
• Experience counted: Only experience gained after your minimum qualifying degree counts. The institute may relax the experience condition for SC/ST candidates, and may relax qualifications for exceptionally outstanding candidates.
• Shortlisting: IIT Madras can limit the number of people called for the test or interview using qualifications and experience above the minimum. Only shortlisted applicants are contacted.
• Eligibility cut-off: Your qualifications, experience and age are judged as on the closing date of the online application.
• Background checks: Documents and antecedents can be checked at any time, and fake documents or hidden facts can end your service.

• Fabricate, prepare and handle biosensor probes and components as per lab protocols
• Prepare materials and carry out basic fabrication, assembly and cleaning of components
• Set up tests for fabricated probes and prototype devices, and run assigned equipment under supervision
• Record measurements and compile experimental observations
• Assist research scientists in routine experiments, repeat measurements and troubleshooting
• Keep lab records, organise samples and track the consumables inventory
