IIT Madras Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post (Advt.78/2026)

The Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (ICSR), Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has invited applications for the temporary post of Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Physics under Advt.78/2026 dated 29 April 2026. The project is co-ordinated by Dr. Bhallamudi Vidya Praveen (Department of Physics) and Dr. Sudharshan Srinivasan (Department of Electrical Engineering). The position is for 1 year and involves work on a magneto-optic quantum sensor.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Electronic Engineering or Photonics, OR M.Sc. in Physics or related field
• GATE: A valid GATE score is mandatory for the JRF position
• Hands-on Experience (Preferred): Fibre simulation and testing of fibre or photonic components for sensor systems
• System Engineering: Experience in design and assembly of magneto-optic quantum sensors
• Component Testing: Characterization and performance evaluation of electrical and optical components
• Instrumentation & Control: Programming in LabVIEW and Python for automated instrument control and data acquisition
• Industrial Experience is preferable
• Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India (or hold an eligibility certificate from the Government of India if you are from Pakistan or Nepal)

Age Limit

• Maximum age: Below 32 years

Stipend

• Stipend: Rs. 37,000 per month plus 24% HRA
• Duration: 1 year (purely contract basis, no claim for extension or regularization)

Selection Process

Selection is based on the following stages:

1. Shortlisting: Based on online application and eligibility criteria
2. Test / Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for test or interview at IIT Madras. Hard copy of the application is NOT to be sent to the Institute, but a printout must be carried to the test or interview.
3. Document Verification: All original certificates required at the time of test or interview

Mere possession of minimum qualifications does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview. Only shortlisted candidates will be informed by email.
