NIT Trichy JRF Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow or Project Associate-I for the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering. The position supports a DST-funded project that is developing a non-invasive, RFID-based wearable sensor to detect atrial fibrillation in elderly people. The work connects electronics, biomedical sensing and clinical data, making it suited to an engineer who wants hands-on research rather than a routine desk role.

The project is led by Dr. Geetha Chakaravarthi under the Science for Equity Empowerment and Development and Technology Interventions for Disabled and Elderly programmes. You will work on a device intended for older users, compare prototype readings with conventional ECG measurements and help turn the findings into technical reports and research articles. The JRF designation applies to a suitable GATE-qualified candidate; the Project Associate-I route covers the non-GATE appointment.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Research Fellow: the GATE-qualified route for candidates from Biomedical Engineering, ECE, EEE, ICE, EIE or an allied circuit branch.
• Project Associate-I: the alternative project appointment for candidates from the same engineering branches without the JRF funding condition.
• Preferred postgraduate background: Biomedical Engineering, Instrumentation or an allied circuit branch can strengthen your fit for sensor design and validation work.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The first appointment is for three months and may be extended up to a maximum of three years based on the project and your continuation.
• Research scope: You will handle procurement, passive RFID sensor design, prototype validation, data collection from elderly participants, ECG comparison, analysis and report writing.
• Interview: Only shortlisted applicants will receive an email invitation for an offline interview at NIT Tiruchirappalli.
• Document check: Originals are checked before interview; if an original is temporarily unavailable, the notice allows a declaration, but every original must be produced during physical reporting after selection.
• Fellowship status: The appointment gives no right to permanent absorption at NIT Trichy, and the institute may cancel the fellowship if the selected person is later found unsuitable.
• Study opportunity: The appointee may get an opportunity to register for a Ph.D. programme, subject to the institute's admission rules.
• Travel: No TA or DA is payable for the interview, so you need to arrange your own travel and stay.
