IIT Kharagpur JRF Mechanical Engineering Recruitment 2026

IIT Kharagpur JRF Mechanical Engineering Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a temporary research assignment in its Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kharagpur. Led by Suman Chakraborty, the project studies lateral flow assay methods for distinguishing bacterial and viral infections affecting the upper respiratory tract. The work connects the department with a diagnostic research problem: developing a screening approach that can tell these types of infection apart. Suraksha Diagnostic Limited sponsors the project, so you would join a defined research assignment rather than a general departmental recruitment pool.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial appointment: The assignment runs for one year from your joining date. This is a time-bound project appointment, and the advertisement does not offer a regular institute position.
• Extension: Continuation depends on your performance. The notice permits extension up to a maximum period of four years, with the project ending earlier if applicable; you should not treat the maximum period as an assured appointment.
• Project boundary: The appointment cannot continue beyond termination of the project. Read this condition together with the performance requirement when considering the possible length of your engagement.
• Interview consideration: Meeting the stated minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview call. The notice explicitly reserves this distinction between satisfying the requirements and being called for consideration.
