IIT KGP Senior Project Manager Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur), through its Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy (SRIC) office, is hiring a Senior Project Manager - Research for a time-bound project in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The project is led by Prof. Siddhartha Roy and carries the code R/NMH.
The research aims to develop a new rare-earth modified AlSi10Mg aluminium alloy made by laser additive manufacturing (metal 3D printing) for high-temperature automobile and aerospace parts. The project is funded by internal users of IIT Kharagpur rather than an outside agency. It suits you if you have a background in metallurgical engineering or materials science and enjoy hands-on lab work with furnaces, sample preparation and testing machines.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: Five months, or until the project ends, whichever comes first. This is a project assignment, not a permanent institute post.
- Pay basis: The monthly amount is consolidated and depends on your qualification and experience; HRA is paid as applicable.
- Age caveat: The advertisement gives a hard upper limit, but its desirable criteria separately prefer candidates within a lower age as on 30 June 2026 — younger applicants may get an edge at shortlisting. Age rules may be relaxed as per the sponsor's rules, if any.
- Desirable profile: A PhD, or a completed PhD synopsis seminar, in metallurgical engineering or materials science, strong basics in mechanical behaviour of materials and physical metallurgy, and more than two papers in SCI-indexed journals.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.

Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Ph.D with minimum 5 years experience OR M.Tech/M.E./M.Des/MBA/CA/ICWA or equivalent degree with minimum 10 years working experience or B.Tech/B.E./M.A./MCA or equivalent degree
Preferred Qualification
PhD degree or completed PhD synopsis seminar from a reputable institute/university/research lab in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science; more than 2 research papers in SCI-indexed international journals
Required Skills
Strong fundamentals in mechanical behaviour of materials and physical metallurgy; laboratory experience in metallurgical sample preparation and operating furnaces and testing equipment
