The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) has released notification number IITJMU/R&C/RP100368/A-21 for 1 Junior Research Fellow post in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The work is on a research project titled "Next-generation polymer membranes for sustainable green hydrogen production", funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the DST India - A*STAR Singapore Joint Grant Call.

This is a computational research role — you will mainly run molecular dynamics simulations of polymer membranes and study how ions move through them, supporting India's push for clean green hydrogen. The post is initially for 12 months and extendable up to 36 months based on your performance and project needs. A selected candidate who meets IIT Jammu's criteria and applies for the Ph.D. programme may also be admitted now or in the future, making this a good launchpad for a research career.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• M.Tech/M.E. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, Computational Chemistry or a related field with at least 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA, AND a valid GATE or equivalent national-level exam score.
• OR B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related field with at least 70% marks or 7.0 CGPA, AND a valid GATE or equivalent national-level exam score.
• Equivalent exams include CSIR-UGC NET and exams by DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IITs, IISc, IISERs and NISER, as per ANRF/DST norms.

Desirable

• Familiarity with Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation tools like GROMACS/LAMMPS and scripting in Python/Bash.
• Knowledge of polymer modelling, membrane science, and ion transport.
• Research experience in computational materials, electrochemical systems, or energy applications.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit is 28 years.
• Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST/OBC, Physically Challenged, and Women candidates.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 37,000 per month + HRA as per institute rules.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on merit and an interview:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on merit and the project's needs. Just meeting the eligibility does not guarantee an interview call.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are informed by email and must appear with an updated CV plus original and attested copies of their mark sheets and certificates. The interview is held offline at IIT Jammu or through an online platform.
